DRAGON'S INC: CHARACTERS

ZYDREK - (Assassin)

My name is Zydrek Kalaniun. I am Half-Elf, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 178 lbs. Well built. Long shoulder length dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, and very tanned skin. I wear black pants, black shirt and black laced riding boots. Studded Leather armor with a hooded black cape over the armor. Most of the time, the hood is not covering my head. I carry a shield. There is a Broadsword in its scabbard on my left hip. The Broadsword has a large blue jewel in the hilt. There is a Morning Star on a clip on my right hip. There is a pouch also attached to my right hip. There are Daggers in sheaths in various areas around the inside of my cape. I wear Gauntlets of Ogre Power. There is a Bow and Quiver of Arrows over my shoulder. I carry a backpack with various assundries in it. I ride a beautiful Thoroughbred Stallion War Horse. His name is Dryden.

I was born on the 18th day of Nightal, in the township of Corwell, Southwest of Lake Myrloch, on the Island of Gwynneth in the Valshea Isles. My father was Lshire Kalaniun and my mother was Tharyl Kalaniun. My father is a fisherman and hunter and my mother takes care of my father.

My mother was elven, my father was human. There were some problems in Corwell because of my parents mixed marriage. Most of the neighbors would shun us, and some would even make ugly comments to our faces, telling us we should leave Corwell. I also did not know who I really was and whether or not I could take being the butt of the jokes of all my classmates in school. I had had enough. It may have been that, and the fact that I really did not like fishing, that I left when I was 15 years old. When I left, I did not really know what I wanted to do, or where I was going. I just knew I did not want to be in Corwell. My mother cried when I left and my father just shook my hand and told me good luck. I have not been back home since. Someday, it would be nice to go home and see how my parents have turned out, or if they are still even there.

I traveled to the northern isles of the Valshea's, where I ws beaten and robbed by the Northmen Raiders. I was found in an alley, in the township of Iron Keep on the Island of Oman, by a dwarfen tavern-wwner called "One-Tooth", which was also the name of the Tavern. He took me in and took care of my wounds and got me back healthy again. He liked me and gave me a job cleaning tables and sweeping floors in exchange for a room over the Tavern. I stayed with One-Tooth for the next 2 years, meeting many travelers and different types of people and races.

When I was 17, a man walked into the Tavern as if he owned it and sat down at a table in the very back corner of the room. He was very mysterious and wore a black-hooded cape. He asked for the Proprietor and I went to get One-Tooth for him. They must have been friends, for they talked for over an hour before the stranger left. I was very intrigued by the man in the hooded cape. I asked One-Tooth who he was and he told me that he was an old friend from before the Northmen Raiders had come to our Islands. Come to find out, the stranger had rented a room over the Tavern next to mine.

I wondered about the stranger over the next couuple of weeks before I rendered enough courage to go up to him for the first time to try to talk to him. He had only been back that day. He would be gone for two or three days at a time, and then show up here again. When I did get to say something to him, he ignored me and kept drinking his ale. Two weeks later, he finally said hello to me. He told me his name was "Kalor". We became friends of sorts, and he began to talk to me more and more. One day, after he had been gone for 3 days and nights, I asked him what his profession was. He just looked at me and told me to ask One-Tooth. One-Tooth went over to Kalor and sat down for what seemed like hours. When he came back over to me, he told me a tale which made the hair on my arms stand up straight. Apparently, Kalor had told One-Tooth that it was all right to tell me, because he did not hesitate, except to swear me to secrecy. Kalor had many dealings with Brandon, the Battlemaster, a Human Male. Brandon is a War Leader for Hire. Kalor is one of Brandon's Man-At-Arms. For quite a long time, Kalor has been traveling to the Northern Islands of the Valshea's and completing, shall we say, "eliminations" of undesirable Northern Leaders. I, of course, am totally shocked, which in a few moments, turns to intrigue. I cannot wait to speak with Kalor of his adventures.

The next morning, Kalor and One-tooth were sitting together in the back corner of the Tavern, speaking very quietly. When I aproached them, they stopped talking and looked at one another very strangely. After a few moments, Kalor asked me to sit down. One-Tooth got up and walked over to get Kalor an ale. Suprisingly, he brought me back a tankard as well, which he had never offered me before. One-Tooth just looked at me, put our drinks in front of us, and walked away. Kalor looked at me and told me that he had a proposition for me that he did not think I would refuse. He asked me all kinds of questions, about how proficient I was with weapons, and if I had ever tried to sneak in or out of my room at night? He then told me of what he had been doing for years, and asked me if I had any desire to become a better and richer man? Of course, being so intrigued, I said yes, all too enthusiastically for Kalor. He looked at me very sternly, and told me that what I was about to venture into was very, very serious and should never be taken lightly or thought of as fun. From now on, every move that I made must be made quietly, slowly and cautious. Everything I looked at and everyone I saw must never even have or perceive of the idea of the profession I was about to engage upon. There my apprenticeship started as to my profession today. For the next 10 years, along with becoming most proficient with Bow & Arrow, Broadsword, Morning Star, Daggers and Darts, I learned the proficiencies of becoming what I am now. Kalor taught me well. How to move in the night and shadows, scaling walls and hiding in any place where most people would never see a hiding place. Traveling north many times with Kalor taught me that silence is the key to movement, and that knowing when to move or not to move could keep me alive.

When I became 28 years old, the township of Iron Keep ws attacked by a Black Dragon and almost completely destroyed. Shortly after the attack of the Black Dragon, two days hence, everyone was burying their dead and reestablishing their provisions when the township was attacked again, this time by Drow. The Drow killed almost everyone in Iron Keep, men, women and children. One-Tooth put up a valiant fight next to me, but he was getting up in age, and could not fight as when he was younger. He was severely wounded and left for dead. He will, more than likely, live. But only because of his stubborness and strong will. I was sitting, holding him, when the Drow left, and he asked me before he passed out to not to let this crime go unpunished. He told me he had sent for a group of adventurers from Apuch to go and fight the Black Dragon which had attacked 2 days before. They were willing to come, since they were out to avenge one of their party's death from the Black Dragon anyway. He asked me to find them and help them avenge Iron Keep.

I left Iron Keep right away after seeing to One-Tooth's wounds and getting him help. I went in search of the party of adventurer's One-Tooth spoke of. I followed the signs of the Black Dragon, which was also where the Drow had gone, for the next 2 days. On the third morning, I was laying on the beach of Gwynneth where I had followed the Dragon and Drow. Suddenly, a bright flash occurred behind me. When I turned around, there stood before me the oddest looking group I had ever seen. A small female Elf, a half-elf and two humans, one with a little red dragon on his shoulder. They were about 100 yards away from me. "This must be them." I said to myself and thus, I met and eventually became a part of Dragon's Inc.
