This pocket size book is a training manual, and is the third edition of "The Maggot – Guidebook for the New Marine" which was first published in 1977.

It has been revised and up-dated in accordance with the recent changes in the operational and training doctrines in the Philippine Marine Corps. The Marine Rifleman is used as a reference by Candidate Soldiers in the Marine Basic Warrior Course and also by Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC) and Citizens Military Training cadets in civilian colleges in the Philippines.

 Written by Brigadier General Teodosio, who commanded the 1st Marine Brigade in the 2000 Central Mindanao campaign against the MILF. He presently is the assistant Chief of Staff AFP for Education J-8 and director of the 2002 Balikatan Exercise in Southern Philippines.
