To Be Elected The requirements to be elected are very simple, yet quite unique. A Scout must be First Class Rank, and he must have the scoutmaster’s approval. Both Scouts and Scouters must have 15 days and nights of camping in the last two years, including one but no more than one week of long term camping. Elections are then held for the eligible Scouts. A Scout must receive fifty percent of the troops votes. As many troop members are not in the Order of the Arrow, elections are controlled by non-members, something that sets the Order apart from other organizations. After a successful election candidates must undergo an Ordeal designed to clarify and strengthen the ideals of the Order of the Arrow. |
Membership Status Membership in the Order of the Arrow is divided into 3 different levels. None of these levels have any advantages over one another but are instead symbols of service and devotion. Ordeal Membership After succesful completion of this Ordeal the candidate becomes an "Ordeal" member of the Order of the Arrow. Ordeal members the sash with a red embroidered arrow upon it. Brotherhood Membership To become a "Brotherhood" member, you must commit to memory the signs of Arrow membership. Advance your understanding of your ordeal. Retain registration in scouting for at least 10 months. During these 10 months you should demonstrate service to both the lodge and to your home unit. After all of this has been completed you must undergo the Brotherhood ceremony. Brotherhood members wear the sash with a red embroidered arrow enclosed by two red bars. Vigil Honor Membership To be eligible for Vigil Honor, you must have been a Brother member for 2 years. At this time your name is eligible to be submitted to the national vigil board. If you are then accepted you must undergo the vigil ceremony. Vigil members alone wear the sash with a red embroidered arrow enclosed between two red bars, bearing a red triangle superimposed on the arrow shaft. Contained within the red triangle are three white arrows. |
