The Sentinel fic...
Attention! I've been falling down on the job with maintaining my site. :-( I'm hoping to find some time -- and some tools ;-) -- to revamp and move my site to Vox Populli, but I've been saying that for months... This site is current through June 2005. All TS fic since then can be found in my 'TS fic since June 2005' memories category on my LJ. (House, M.D. fic here, FYI.) Thanks! Attention Again!! |
Unlike the BtVS fandom, where I read for six months before writing anything at all, I became a complete Sentinel junkie just about instantly after seeing the show for the first time in September 03 -- and it was less than a month later that I wrote my first piece. And two days later before I wrote its companion. And three days later I wrote my first J/B drabble... eek... It still rather boggles my mind, the sheer volume of tiny TS pieces that I have written... I never imagined that I would be so prolific in any fandom. I still don't anticipate doing anything longer than a few thousand words in this fandom -- I just don't have cop plots at my fingertips, and no attention span. But I just adore the relationship between Jim & Blair so much, whether it's a slash piece or a "not slash yet" snippet (you might call it gen, but to me almost all Sentinel gen could be slash in the paragraphs you don't see ;-) ), regardless of what aspects of their personalities I choose to focus on... I just can't seem to stop churning the stuff out. :-) So I've finally (as of 15th May 2005) had to break my fics into multiple pages, because the list was just too unwieldy. I've spent ages trying to find a reasonable way of categorizing them: based on content, based on length, based on any number of things. I learned an interesting lesson: I often can't even tell whether something was intended as gen, established relationship, slash in another 18 hours, or what, and I really hate being forced to decide, and to possibly spoil a plot by designating it one way or another. So in the end I decided t just arrange them by year -- hopefully I should be able to determine what year it is... ;-) A few words about my writing -- aka, all the reasons you might not want to read my stuff. ;-) I am not one for flowery description, and if you need lots of details about scene & stuff, I'm probably not the author for you -- I don't have the attention span for it. :-) I tend to do a lot of dialog, and a lot of domestic scenes... actually it's occurred to me recently that the poor boys rarely leave the loft in my fics. :-) Most of my fics are slash, or slash-y, or pre-slash, or headed in the direction of slash, or could be read as slash or gen... I've only written one piece that was well and truly gen in my opinion, and as I said above, I don't like to spoil things by indicating one way or another, so if slash is a problem, you really don't want to be here. And finally, on the subject of canon vs fanon -- I try not to indulge too heavily in purely fanon concepts, but I am hardly the queen of canon either, as I haven't even seen all of the episodes yet (though I've read all the transcripts). I like a lot of things which are fanon. If you are a complete purist, well, again, maybe I'm not the author for you... my feeling is if canon were perfect, we wouldn't feel such a compelling need to write fic for years afterward. ;-) Having said that, though, characterization is very important to me -- Jim & Blair should be Jim & Blair whether we've got mystical Sentinel/Guide bonds or not. :-) So -- on to the fic! | ||

Bonus Feature: New Beginnings A series of challenge responses for Sentinel Thursday that I started -- and let languish -- in 2004. Since I am determined to write more of it, I'm putting the link to series page here outside of the year structure. WIP (until I make an "updated" logo, "NEW" will indicate recently-added installment :-) ) |
