Which holidays I celebrate, which ones I don't, and why.
HALLOWEEN
People are always asking me why I don't celebrate Halloween and why I don't let my kids trick or treat. If you are not a chrisitan, you will definately not understand my motivation. If you are a christian and you don't understand, there are some Bible verses at the bottom of the page and a another page on what the bible says on evil sprits and the like. They may help you to understand.
The answer to this question is two part. Number 1, it is not safe any more. Halloween night is the biggest night of the year for the emergency room. It is not just a fun night of candy and costumes any more. I will not put my kids into that kind of risk. Number two, it is a satanic holiday. To prove this, let me give you a little history lesson. In ancient times, people who lived on the European continent were afraid of the evil spirits that came out on the last day of October. The priests of the time would either leave out special treats to appease the spirits or they would dress as witches to attempt to trick the spirits. This is where trick or treat and costumes got there origin from. The holiday, though it received it's name from All Hallows Day, is based entirely on evil spirits. If you think that evil spirits don't exsist, check your Bible. They do. Through out the entire *Bible, God warns us not to get involved in any way with things that are a part of satin and Halloween is his day. To learn about what the Bible says about evil spirits, sorcery, witchcraft, black magic, etc, go to my page about this subject. To complete my answer, I wish to do what God wants me to, and he does not want me to celebrate this evil day. There are plenty of fun things for my kids to do...they are not dependant upon Halloween to enjoy life. Please do not misunderstand me and think that I am condemning you if you celebrate Halloween. I am not. It is simply a personal choice for me to NOT celebrate it. This page is just for those who are always asking why.
Saint Patricks Day
I do not know the actual origins of St. Patricks day. I do, however, know that the entire holiday is based on a concept I DO NOT believe in: LUCK. You see, my God (and yours) created the entire universe, including you and me. He also controls that entire universe...every aspect of it. To say that He could not control every thing would be to put limitations on Him, and He has no limits. He can do anything. Sometimes we don't like the things He chooses to do, but in the long run, He knows what is best for us. He sees the whole picture of our tiny lives from star to finish. He knows what will happen ten years from now. Sometimes things don't seem like the best for us, but we do not know what could happen next year that would make that experience neccesary. Luck is not a part of my vocabulary, but blessings from God is. He has blessed my life emensely and He can do the same for you if you let Him. God bless and excuse me if I don't wear my four leaf clover and "lucky" green clothes this St. Patty's day.
EASTER & CHRISTMAS
These are my two favorite hoilidays the two most important chrisitan holidays. Christmas is the day that we celebrate the birth of God's son, Jesus Christ. It is a very special day and because of it, Easter is possible. Easter is the day set aside to celebrate the death and resurection of Jesus. Because of this death and resurection, each of us has a way to get to Heaven..a doorway if you please. You see, all of us are sinners in God's eyes and the penalty for sin is death. But God loves us so much that He sent his son to pay that penalty for all of us. All you have to do is accept this gracious gift of salvation. It is that simple. I have accepted this gift and am completely assured that someday I WILL go to Heaven. Easter is the most important holiday because it made salvation possible. But...if Jesus hadn't been born on that first Christmas day, Easter would not have happened. So that makes Christmas just as special to me.
**On a specail note, the reason I put ressurection in bold is to emphasize it. If Jesus had not rose again, the miracle would not have been complete. f God can not raise his own son back to life, how could he save me from Hell? He couldn't. But...because He was able to bring Jesus back to life, He can save me from Hell. And I am so grateful.**
Valentines Day
This is a fun holiday based on a concept I DO beleive in: LOVE. God is a wonderful God to give us the ability to love others. His purpose was for a man and a woman to marry and to love one another till "death do they part". We have messed that up quite a bit, but love is stil very special. I feel very strongly that long lasting, monogamous marriages strengthen the family. If we continue to treat marriage as lightly as we do now, we may destroy what is left of the family. I am so very blessed to have a husband that loves me and three beautiful kids. This is a first and hopefully last marriage for both of us. Neither one of us believes in divorce, so we will be willing to work on it till we get it right. Please do not misunderstand me and think I am condemimg you if you have had or are going to have a divorce. I do not. I simply wish the best for all of us..especially our children. And I know that with God's help, marriage can be an enormous blessing. I pray that each of you will have such a blessing in time to come.
Independance Day
I very strongly believe in supporting ones country, especially if it is a country that is built upon a the solid foundation of God. Our forefathers, when they signed the constitution, intended for this to be a country where people could worship God wothout being told how and where to do it. No other country has this freedom to the extent that we do. This country is going down hill as far as morals and the Bible is concerned, but it is still the best country in the world to live in. I am proud of my country. I am not proud of everything it has done in the past or is doing now, such as slavery, abortion, and the high rate of divorce. But I am proud to be an American. I pray that each and every christian will start exercising their right to vote so that we can get decent, chrisitan people in the government. It will be hard to get our morals back to where they belong if we keep letting Godless people run our country. Harsh but true!
