Juvenile prisoners on Alabama’s death row are appealing to the clergy and the wider community, seeking sanctuary from execution.
In the state of Alabama 13 young men await their execution for offenses committed when they were children.
Since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976, the United States has executed 23 child offenders. This is a violation of international law.
We seek the support of churches in Alabama with an aim to approach legislators with a view to amending current laws and prevent further executions of persons who were sentenced to death for offenses committed below age 18.
You may read the Plea for Sanctuary which has been prepared on behalf of young men sentenced to death as juveniles and who are facing execution.
If you would like to support this effort and approach your church leaders, please download a copy of the Plea for Sanctuary, cover letter, letter of support and footnotes in Print version.
