This page is mainly about Warcraft II.
During the game, you must gather three different types resources (gold, lumber, and oil). Every unit in the game requires gold to train and every structure requires lumber and gold to build. To get gold, your men must get sacks of gold out of the gold mines. To get lumber, your men must chop down trees. The game basically revolves around resources since you can't build without any resources. The player that has gathered the most resources usually wins.
Strategy comes into play when you must decide what units to train and what structures to build. As you collect resources, you must train units to fight your enemy. As the game progresses, you get more advanced in technology and you begin to build advanced structures. These advanced structures will allow you to train stronger units.
Each unit requires certain types buildings built to be trained. Later in the game, spells begin to become a factor. WarCraft II can be compared to chess, except you have no time to think and there are no rules on how your guys can be moved.
