 THE DO-IT-ALL MAN 

Jim Backus was a multi-talented performer. Not only in movies, he also did well in radio broadcasting, Broadway, television shows, and cartoons. He first entered the show business when he did a radio show while enrolling in the American Academy of Dramatic Art. Later he also did movies and was frequently being cast in wealthy roles, with the exception of Frank Stark in Rebel Without a Cause (1955). His two most well-known roles in his career were Mr. Magoo in the Mister Magoo cartoon series (1949 - 1964) and Thurston Howell III, one of the crazy castaways in popular TV sitcom Gilligan's Island (1964 - 1967).
