Edward Platt was most remembered for his role "Chief" in Don Adams' popular Mel Brooks/Buck Henry spy series of Get Smart (1965) (TV). Before he became the "Chief", Platt was a musician. He was a band vocal in Paul Whiteman's Orchestra and was starred in several musicals before World War II. He served as a radio operator during the war and continued his music career on Broadway until 1952, when he was sent to Hollywood to become a movie star. His rich voice and handsome, mature look made him a star in crime and war dramas. In the 1960s he focused on his TV career. Get Smart was the most popular one among his work. He also appeared in other shows as a guest star. Platt died in a heart attack on March 19, 1974 at the age of 58. He was survived by his wife and four children.
