Ever since Christmas 1956 PG Tips have been the most reliable employer of chimps. Many a chimp who was down on his or her luck would find solace and meaning in the pg tips family, not to mention a nice hot cup of tea! Things have recently however, taken a turn for the worse. The whole chimp tribe that was dependent on PG Tips for their livelihood has now been turfed out on the streets.
Annemieke Tromp, PG Tips marketing manager, said: "The chimps have a much loved brand image which still works well for us, but we need, at the same time, to take a newer approach. Competition in the drinks market is now fiercer than ever with so many alternative choices of soft drinks, coffee and mineral waters. So we need a campaign that young people can directly relate to and which highlights the benefits of drinking tea."
These common chickens are the replacement for the chimps.
On the positive side, many chickens will be employed in this new initiative, and they will gain self-esteem and hard cash. However, chickens have an alternative job: laying eggs in a shed, so why should they take monkey's acting jobs when monkey's cannot lay eggs and so will become destitute? It is not too late to correct this grave injustice, but firm action is needed immediately.
