Early in 2002 in the city of Buenos Aires, a group of experts in photography, photographic conservation, digital preservation and management of images formed the Visual Memory Team in order to contribute solutions for the restoration process of photographic images and its utilization.

The team's intention is to provide an integral solution to the problems faced by owners of photo collections and photo archives, who feel they have in their hands an unproductive treasure constantly deteriorating with the passage of time.

Until now, only partial solutions were available. Reproduction, conservation of originals, and digital preservation are not sufficient if the ultimate purpose is to recover a heritage of images so that they can be fully utilized. A common strategy comprising all the stages of the process is required.
