Independence Day
|
There has been no movie for a long time about which people that I asked had
that many different opinions. Many consider ID4 as a absolute brilliant movie
while others think it's totally bad. I for myself enjoyed the movie and think
it was very good. There are many exciting special effects and also many funny
scenes (especially some played by Will Smith), but there are also far to many
weird things and exaggerated heroism and patriotism. All in all I think it is a movie
worth looking but you shouldn't think too much about it. Just have fun!

Twister
|
I think Twister is a good movie in every aspect. There is an interesting and
exciting story and also good looking special effects that are rather integrated into
the story than only showed for 'the effect'. All in all Twister is the best
movie which I watched at cinema in the last time. By the way: Lorenz Kubiak
from the tv-show 'Parker Lewis' has a small role as one of the 'bad' scientists.
Everytime I see him in a 'serious' role I'm somewhat amused ;).

Eraser
|
And again a fine action movie thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger and the special
effects team. The story is not too bad, although the movie lives by the action,
but the special effects are of supreme quality. Once again Arnie has the free choice
of weapon - among which there is a portable firearm which accelerates small projectiles
near to the speed of light - but his new 'client' (Vanessa Williams) has to proove
that she can handle a pistol, too. Eraser is a really exciting movie from the
beginning upto the showdown (of course with big explosion etc.).

Mission Impossible
Mission Impossible was supposed to be one of the movie-hits of the year and it
was surely a succesful movie, but for me Mission Impossible is the biggest disappointment
of the year. The most interesting part of Mission Impossible is the beginning (the mission
that went wrong). The special effects were announced to be the 'best ever' but you
couldn't see that. Especially the often shown stunt within the eurotunnel (where Tom Cruise
is thrown on the high speed train by the explosion of a helicopter) is - in my opinion -
complete foolish.

Speed
|
One of my absolute favourites. There are many exciting scenes, and that's not
surprising, because Annie (Sandra Bullock) has to keep a bus constantly on a speed
higher than 50 mph, and she's driving by bus just because she lost her driving
license - she was driving too fast. Beside the good action there is also an
interesting story and last but absolute not least: Sandra Bullock in one of her
best roles. Speed II is on its way, release date should be somewhen in summer '97.

Apollo 13
This is for me one of the best movies ever! Around the adventurous voyage of
Apollo 13 you can see fantastic pictures from space made by the computer. The FX
was created by Digital Domain, which also did
a good job at True Lies. Although Tom Hanks, as Jim Lovell, plays the main role, my
favourite qoutation comes from Gene Kranz (Ed Harris): 'Failure is not an option!'

Stargate
|
Stargate is a movie that I like to see again and again. Although it was one of
the first movies that made extensive use of computers the effects are even today
good looking. But the effects were not used to hide a weak story - the opposite
is right: Stargate tells a really fantastic story about a link between the ancient
egypt and an alien which will do everything to live forever.
