General

Size: 20 Buildings (Population 142 Humans (42 men, 43 women, 57 Children))
The village is home to wreckers and smugglers, a haunt of thieves and wasters. They light the lamp atop the lighthouse to guide ships to their doom upon the rocks off shore before sending out their boats to salvage what they can from the flotsam. As for the sailors and passengers, if they are lucky they get washed up on a far shore. If not they are sold into slavery the next time one of the galleys come visiting. The village is situated at the mouth of the River Sudyr on the north-east coast of Gwydre.

The Lighthouse

The lighthouse is built of solid local stone and stands on a rocky knoll to the south east of the main village. Apparently ruined and disused a fire is lit in the tower to lure ships aground on nights of heavy fogs and storms, both of which are common in this part of the land.

Temple Of Bozdogan

A small but wealthy temple built to honour Bozdogan (also known as Loki). It has a simple rectangular nave with a tower at one end. An adjacent group of buildings house the cleric and acolytes. There is a heavy iron bell hanging in the tower, which is rung to summon the village to worship, or to the boats to salvage goods from a wreck.
Weli Smallhands insists that all the children are taught to read, write and add up while those with an inclination to further study are taught geography, history and politics, the latter two biased towards the way that Weli sees things. The children are taught by Brother Gweddyf and the other brothers in the main body of the temple. Weli believes that an educated thief has more chance of success than a dumb one. It certainly seems to have worked for him.

Brother Gweddyf (L19 Human Male Cleric)

Brother Gweddyf is a devout follower of Bozdogan and has been for most of his 47 years. He is a striking figure, with his long white hair, height and racking cough. Too many late nights hefting heavy crates with icy water up to his chest has ruined his health and despite the aid of his Immortal he is not in the best of health. He used to run the tavern in Sudyr before the revolution in the days when it was called The Safe Haven often leaving it in the hands of his wife while he went adventuring. He can be very persuasive and charming when he needs to be, most notably when the military come to investigate another sad wreck. He has a love of mountains and caves. He lives to serve Bozdogan and he is saddened that he is now too old to pursue is goal of immortality as a servant of his Immortal. Any spare time he has he spends working on detailed models of the temple he dreams of building when he eventually becomes High Priest.

The Prince of Deceit Tavern

The sign outside shows a golden goblet overflowing with wine and the name painted over the door to the tap room is 'The Golden Goblet' but all the locals know it as The Prince of Deceit, an ancient name for Bozdogan. The Tavern is large and is quite capable of holding most of the adult population of the village as it often does when a meeting of The Guild is called. The walls are solid and thick as is are the doors. The windows are narrow and are usually covered by shutters, ostensibly to keep out the strong winds that lash the coast but really so that the building can be defended if needs be. The tavern used to be called The Safe Haven.

Cellgad

Cellgad is thirty-eight, average height and build but dark of hair and soul. He treats the serving girls and boys badly but none dare complain, as they fear that Cellgad will only get more vicious. He has knowledge of poisons and swift silent killing. It was he who disposed of several of the old Lord's family. He hated them, he was poor and wretched while they rode around on fine horses and hunted with dogs who had better food than he. He keeps a sharp dagger under his pillow at night and a tripwire across his door as he is paranoid that one of the Lord's sons will return to seek revenge. He is not a member of the Thieves' Guild, he is too unstable and violent even for them.

Sudyr Manor

The oldest and highest quality building in the village is owned by the Thieves' Guild. It used to the manor house of the Llwydwydd family who also owned the village. The Guild infiltrated the village slowly then murdered the family one by one, each apparently an accident till at last the two remaining children and an old retainer left the village to live with an uncle two dozen years ago. They believed the village to be cursed and have never returned to claim their birthright. It is a two-storey building with extensive cellars that run out towards the river.
Members of the guild are allowed to borrow items from the guild store. These include weapons, armour and the odd magical item.

Guildmaster: Weli Smallhands (L14 Human, Lawful Neutral, Thief)

Strong, nimble, quick witted, cunning and attractive, Weli could have done anything, been anyone but he chose the quick path to riches and became a thief. From the first purse that he swiped from a merchant to the latest horde of cargo stashed in the cellars of the manor house Weli has used his talents for himself not the food of others. He has never let anyone stand in his way, using his smooth tongue or his strong right aim to get what he wanted. Perhaps it is his slightly withered left arm that made him this way, insults from other children when he was younger. Or an over protective father, the will of the Immortals or just pure chance. Whatever the cause Weli is now rich, rich enough to afford fine wines, the best clothes, books and scrolls of poetry. He can mix with the highest and wealthiest in the capital without anyone suspecting whom he is or what he really does, as he is also rich enough to buy a new history. He enjoys his life and intends to go on living the high life until he dies.

Smuggling Taskmaster: Magei (Level 2 Human , Neutral , Thief)

As well as wrecking ships the Guild in Sudyr also buys and sells illegal goods such as Puff and Krryf and slaves. The usual deal is for the slavers to pay for the slaves with pouches of Krryf and bales of Puff. The slaves are the captured sailors and pasengers on the wrecked ships. Heavily built sailors and pretty young women can fetch a high price on the blocks of Ithrorn. Magei is the one who runs this business. He and the Guildmasterare the only ones who have keys to the Puff and Kryyf store beneath the manor. He struts arrogantly about the village and remains aloof from the other thieves.
He is always immaculately turned out and has an eye for the ladies. He retains enough self control not to 'spoil' any of the merchandice that is due for the slavers, that would be a short cut to the bottom of the harbour. He is allergic to insect bites and in the summer when midges form a haze above the mudflats he can be seen scratching his arms almost incessantly. He is also short, just over 5' tall and slender.
He recently aquired a ring from one of the last wrecks which he was told by the dying sailor was a ring of water walking. He has yet to try it out and he will get a big surprise when he does so as it is no such thing.

Wrecking Taskmaster: Fyrdwyach (Level 3 Human, Lawful Good , Thief)

Fyrdwyach is a thorn in the Weli's side. He is conservative to the point of being obstructive, pedantic and tardy. He dresses in clothes that went out of style at least two generations ago and has a raspy, wheezy voice. He is the leader of the wreckers and it is his responsibility to get the goods from the ship ashore as soon as possible. His teams of strong, hardy men and women will row out to the vessel ensure that it is securely stuck then board it. They will capture who they can and kill those that are injured or are of too little value to sell on to the slave traders. The ship wil then be cleared of all valuables and then sunk.He has a ring of weakness which he places upon the hand of the captain of the vessel if he can find him to make it easier to get him off the ship. In his youth he had a job in a shipyard and he knows just where to hole a ship to take it down swiftly.

Forgery & Blackmail Taskmaster: Beram (Level 5 Human, Lawful Evil, Thief)

Beram is responsible for keeping the forces of the law from the guild. It is he who sends false reports to the capital. He is an expert forger and has used contacts in the city to gain some very juicy pieces of information on those high up in the bureaucracy, which he uses to make sure that interfearence is kept to a minimum. He has a commanding voice and he can often be heard on wrecking nights urging the men folk to pull harder on the oars from the parapet of the lighthouse where he keeps out of the rain. Why does he stay there and not help in the night's work? He has an unatural fear of rain, he believes it to be acid and that any drop on his skin will burn him. He is also allergic to magical potions of all kinds, they act as a potion of poison.
He is a pleasant enough man who has a wry sense of humer that he has used to gain him many friends in the towns and cities of the eastern coast. 'You can never have too many friends in high places' is his motto.

Market

Held twice weekly beside the tavern. Most of the stalls are run by the women folk of the village and is a hot bed of gossip and rumour. As there are no other shops in the village this is the place to come if you need food. The timker may have an odd blade or two, or perhaps a battered leather chestplate that the original owner has no need for anymore. The horse trader may have a length or two of rope for sale as well as saddle bags, sacks and pouches. If you ask nicely he may even let you view his collection of oddities, items that careless people have left in the horses' saddlebags.
