In the time before time before time, there was Nothing--a vast expanse of empty blackness. It was in this time when the Three came forth, and filled the emptyness.
First was Maelstrom, the ever-changing. She was and is all form and no form together and at once. There is nothing that exists that does not have a part of Maelstrom whirling around within them.
Second was Weaver, the ever-forming. She takes what that Maelstrom creates and gives it form. There is nothing that exists that is not touched by Weaver's hand.
Third was Wyrm, the Balancer. When Weaver made too much form that is was suffocating Maelstrom, Wyrm tore at Weaver's works, returning the essense back to Maelstrom. When Weaver couldn't keep up with Maelstrom, Wyrm held her back until Weaver could catch up. There is nothing that exists that first follows the balance of the Wyrm.
For eons, this balanced was mantained, and each of the Three created helpers as the Realms expanded. Maelstrom had her wyldchilds, Weaver had her spiders, and Wyrm had his dragons.
What? Oh, yes, our kin. They are Wyrm's Firstborn. I know what you're thinking, I'll get to that...
No one is quite sure how, but then SOMETHING happened. The Wyrm himself became unbalanced, and Split into the Myraid Corruptor we know today. This upset the balance of the whole. Weaver went crazy as well, and tried to calcify everything even as the Myraid Corruptor tried to destroy everything. Maelstrom shrank back, defending herself. It was then that the Worlds split as well...
Hmm. Oh, the world of form and the world of spirit were once one, but now they are separated by a wall called the Barrier. I have heard the Barrier has gotten stronger...not like that'll stop a Dalake---oh, but I've gotton off track...
The Dragons, because of the split, lost their spirit-selves and their powers. They were trapped in the world of form, unable to cross over. The world shook for eons as they howled their dispair.
Then came the Shapeshifter Age.
To try and regain the balance, Gaia choose from her peoples and created something new. Joining Maelstrom's amimals with the new humans of Weaver, and mixing in some of the remaining spirit, She created the first of the Changing Breeds. Each had it's own job, and they did it willingly.
But Wyrm's Dragons were not among them...
and the Barrier became stronger....
Seeing this, the first of our kind, Dalake, went to Gaia, pleading with her for help and wishing his powers restored so the Dragons may once again restore the Balance. At first she didn't listen, but after much thought, she granted him his request. And more.
He now had the power to travel between the worlds like the Barrier wasn't there. He could take the other skin-changers over with him. He could weaken the Barrier in places so that the magic of the spirit world could be used by the others. He had power to destroy the workings of Wyrm's Nextborn, and he passed these powers down to his children.
Millenium passed, and though the Balance had not been restored, the skin-changers, working together, kept it from deteriorating more and kept the Barrier thinned. And--right--someting happened.
The wolf-changers got it in there minds that THEIR way was the best way of keeping the balance, and when the others didn't agree, they declared war. Many skin-changers were utterly destroyed. We suffered bad enough, the Clans of Moonscale and Sandscale destroyed before we could escape into the Umbra with our kin. The wolves followed, but they didn't know the Umbra like we did, and we left them behind. We fled passed the Deep Umbra, passed the Endless, until we came across a pure, balanced Realm, untouched by the Split. We settled there with our kin, and have prospered. Sometimes a few of us would go back to Gaia's Realm, but the damage there was too great. We wander around the Umbra, looking for other Realms, in case others of our kind had fled there and left desendants. And the thrill of travel, too. But it's always nice to come home...
My knowledge goes no further, unless you wish me to speak about Dyrmyst. And I shall do that at a later time...
