Detour
a dream by Ellen
Date: early June
The buildings were falling. My family and I were running away--everything was barely okay, until my mom dropped her purse. I know now that it would be stupid to risk my life to get the purse back, but at the time I was only thinking, "everything's in that purse." But I made it, fortunately. We reached an intersection, and I knew that turning left would be wrong. I persuaded my family to go right, and we got out of the earthquake zone. In the distance we saw a guy with a Jeep; we stuck our thumbs out for a hitchhike. My family was putting their things in the trunk. The ride ahead looked bumpy and the trunk had no lid, so I took all our things out and placed them on my lap instead, including my kangaroo backpack. The destination ended up being a huge toy store, of the toys I remember a Brain ("Pinky and the Brain") doll, toy microphones, a basement full of cars; blue glitter stickers. My mom and I took a walk by the sea and ran into a "LuvDruHill.com" club. I was envious and wanted to join, especially after I saw my friend Jeff there as well. I suppose it was the stress from the earthquake that got to my mom--she was starting to become hysterical! I had to yell for her to hear me--I was the sensible one in this dream. When she finally calmed down, she tested me math problems. They were word problems; area=x, length=l, width=w, multiple choice. I chose C but the answer was D. I then saw that my mom had two bags: a black one and a white one (the one that fell). I asked her if she had had those all along, during the earthquake. She nodded yes, and I became upset at myself for risking my life to get one of the purses back when everything was in the black one. We went home and I went to go relax in the bathroom. I now had 2 sisters. Marita kicked a bloody tissue under the toilet just to annoy me. The night before I had a performance and I asked my imaginary sister whether she came or not. She said, yes, a little, but she had to leave early...
