GammaRangerREBOOT

Reboot19: Ride the Silver Ball

(Original air date: July 25, 1998)

(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for July 24, 1998:

The GridTitan's first battle was a complete success. Right now, it is the only option we have, because we have no Station to call home. Meanwhile, tensions between Hexalink and Galevan heat up to an unbearable level as they are both inadvertently used to create a new kind of Betamon, Hexalevan. After finding a weakness, we managed to defeat the monster. That was a month ago. Now, Scottie and Laura are hard at work on a new Station. And for some reason, Amy, Jill, and Eric are keeping me occupied... More so than usual.)

(The scene: Tradewinds Town Centre. Amy, Eric, and Jill, upon receipt of Scottie's message, keep Bryan busy at the arcade. The flashing lights of the games and the scenery detract Bryan from recent memory of the battle against Hexalink, but not for long.)

Amy: Say, Bryan... Have you ever been in here?

Bryan: Nope. Never have. I've never seen an arcade in my life. And even if I had, I was probably too young to remember.

Eric: Well, it's a perfect way to unwind. And believe me, you need to unwind.

Bryan (worried): It wouldn't surprise me if Hexalink was probably thinking of a way to catch us.

Jill: See? That's what I'm talking about!

Bryan: Huh? What?

Jill: For the last few weeks it's been Hexalink this and Galevan that. You need to outlet some of that energy before it consumes you and turns you into a harsh monster.

Eric: Leave it to Jill to exercise that new age thinking of hers.

Bryan: I know. I'm sorry, guys. (looks at a pinball machine) What's this?

(In the far corner, young Peter is playing a fighting game, when he spots Bryan and the others.)

Peter: Hey guys! Over here! (the group huddles next to Peter) I heard about your graduation. Congrats, dudes!

Amy: Thanks! But don't you think those congratulations come a bit too late?

Peter: So I'm a month late... Sue me!

Eric: Well, it's not like we're going anywhere too soon. We're all going to college here in town and...

Jill: Ahem...

Eric: Oh, sorry. Jill, this is Peter Bailey. We've known him a while now. Peter, this is my... uh...

Jill: Hi. I'm Jill. (smiles while shaking Peter's hand)

Peter: Hey Jill. Very nice to meet you.

Jill: Watch it.

Peter: Watching.

(On board the Satellite, Hexalink, after extensive planning, unveils his new Betavirus.)

Namrock: This better be good, Hexalink.

Galevan: Yeah. And not for a laugh, either.

Hexalink: Just the last laugh, old friend. This... (brings up code for virus) ...is the future. Concentrated into a high frequency beam, it will infect anything that it comes in contact with. Nothing, not even the new GridTitan, can beat this deadly strain.

Namrock: Hmm... This seems far superior to the junk that Rhexus creates.

Rhexus: I resent that remark.

Namrock: I never said you were bad, just that you pale in comparison to Hexalink.

Rhexus: Oh. (withdraws)

Hexalink: Our first subject is this human. (the window shows Peter Bailey)

Chouzo: Why him?

Namrock: You'll find out soon. But for now, I'm putting you in control of this operation, Hexalink.

Galevan: Yeah. Forgot who you were talking to.

Hexalink: Excuse me? You're just a blue trash older compared to...

Namrock: Silence! Hexalink, you have a job to do, so I suggest you do it.

Hexalink: (sighs) Yes, my lord. Such an outburst will never happen again.

Namrock: See that it doesn't.

(From the Satellite, Hexalink blasts the image of Peter, just as Jill's contacts fall on the ground at the Arcade.)

Jill: Man... My contacts!

Peter: I'll get them!

(He bends down to pick up the contacts. As a result, the beam meant for him hit the virtual pet in his pocket.)

Here you go, Jill. Now I gotta... Hey... where's my chain? My Digipet was on it!

Bryan: Is that it?

(He walks over to the place on the floor where the virtual pet is. He picks it up as it starts beeping like crazy.)

Amy: I think it's starving... I've never seen it beep that much. Not even for one of those things.

Peter: I'll take care of that.

(He takes the virtual pet as it starts to glow and become hot. Peter drops it.)

Scottie: What did you give that guy to eat?

Peter: Aaahhh! How did that thing get so hot anyway?

Eric: I really can't say.

(Cut back to the Satellite.)

Hexalink: Damn! I missed. Oh well, make the best of a bad situation, I guess. Chouzo, I need six Balzac to take with me to Earth.

Chouzo: Half a dozen Balzac, coming up!

(He orders the Balzac to line up and move out at Hexalink's command. Back to the arcade.)

Eric: C'mon, guys. I'm hungry! Peter, you want to grab a bite with us?

Peter: But what about my pet?

Amy: I can tell you from past experience, when a v-pet glows like that, let it go, because brother, it's gone. (everyone giggles)

Jill: Besides, I betcha have enough to buy another one. I'll even help you choose one out.

Peter: (trying to act suavely) Well, I'll try and manage. Let's go get something.

(The group head out of the arcade. Amy and Eric get their stuff before heading out, but little did they know that they would be staying longer than expected. A lightning surge catches them and draws them back into the arcade.)

Bryan: I feel like pizza. How about you, Jill?

Jill: Chinese. Eric?

(Nothing.)

Eric?

(The group looks behind as no trace of Amy and Eric remain.)

Peter: You think they went back to the arcade?

Bryan: Possibility. Let's go back.

(The three head back to the arcade to find it empty. No Amy. No Eric. Just one virtual pet. The same one that had been in Peter's pocket.)

Jill: They're not here!

Peter: (cowering out) I just remembered. It's like 4:30. My mom's waiting for me outside.

Jill: All right, Peter. It was nice meeting you.

Peter: Yeah same here... (runs out)

Bryan: You think it's that?

Jill: There's no other explanation. (Grid Loader goes off) That's it. I can't keep this a secret anymore. Bryan, you have to come with me.

(Inside the "Silver Ball" pinball machine, Eric and Amy rouse from being knocked out cold.)

Eric: Ohh... My head... (looks above at the glass ceiling and then below at the game design) Uhh, Amy? (wakes Amy up) Amy, look at this. Does all this looks familiar?

Amy: What, what is it... Hold on. What is this?

(The speakers of the game go off.)

Announcer: Welcome to the Silverrrrrrr Ball!

Eric: Oh, no. We're... we're...

Amy: Yes, we are. (looks around) Try and contact Bryan. (points up) Tell them we've got Namrock troubles.

(Outside the machine, the Namrocks search for the virtual pet that pulled the Rangers in the game.)

Hexalink: Keep looking! That device has to be around here somewhere.

Galevan: No such luck!

Hexalink: You will address me only when you have been addressed! Now go help the Balzac search for the device.

Galevan: I am Galevan of the Namrocks! I don't have to take orders from a maverick like you!

Chouzo: Guys! I think I found it...

Hexalink: Found what?

(After the Namrocks rush to the attendant's office, they look in awe as they find the "virtual pet." Meanwhile, back at the game.)

Eric: Now what?

Amy: I guess we just stay here until Bryan decides to contact us.

(Outside, the game goes off. A few Balzac decide to play around with it! A pinball gets launched onto the playing field.)

Eric...

(Eric turns around to see the ball.)

Eric: Run!

(Eric and Amy run around the playing field in tune to the game's music, trying to dodge the random movements of the ball. Meanwhile, the Balzacs are having a blast playing with the Rangers, until...)

Galevan (pointing to Balzac): You! Get over here!

(The Balzac go to the empty managerial office. Meanwhile, on the corner of Matheson and Chapman Streets.)

Jill: Scottie said to meet us here. Where is he?

Bryan: Yeah, Jill. Where IS he? (CyberLoader goes off)

Jill: Scottie?

Laura (over ComLink): No, it's Laura. Scottie's testing the main browsers.

Jill: Well, Bryan's here now.

Laura: (Over Com-Link) All right. Look up, Bryan.

(Bryan looks up as the Rangers' new command base, the NetStation, comes into view. Scottie activates the Com-Links again.) Scottie: All right, I've got you to locked in for transload. Are you ready?

Bryan: I guess so. Beam us up, Scottie.

Scottie: Don't ever say that again.

(The plucky teen links the NetStation to the CyberLoaders.)

|||||||||||||||||||||
NETSTATION LINKED.
Prepare for transload.

(Instantly, the Rangers are transported aboard the bridge of the NetStation. Bryan looks around in awe at the control sets, the ceiling, and all the advanced technology.)

Bryan: This is amazing!

Scottie: So, you like it? It was meant to be a surprise, but we had problems hat forced otherwise.

Bryan: The virtual pet. The arcade!

Laura (coming from the inside): The arcade? We just received viral readings from there.

Jill: Hexalink.

Scottie: Yeah. And he brought some friends too. (looks at the band of Namrocks on the screen)

Laura: We gotta get the others.

Bryan: Eric and Amy? We haven't found them since we left the arcade.

Scottie: This is too big to ignore. I'l put the NetStation on remote alert while we go investigate.

Jill: Let's motor, then. GridRanger zip file, download!

(Jill transforms into GridRanger. The others follow suit.)

Bryan: Ranger files, download!

(The other three GammaRanger transform. Together, they transload to the arcade at the mall, which is now closed due to the monster attack.)

RedJupiter: Keep your eyes peeled for anything. And watch your back!

AquaMercury: Hold on, I'm getting something from the NetStation. According to the remote alert, Eric and Amy are here!

GridRanger: I knew it! But where?

(Scottie looks around the pinball machines, keeping the GammaRecord on full watch. Later, his G-Cells pick up something. It's Eric and Amy in the machine shouting, but the Ranger can't hear them!)

BlueNeptune: Dudes! Over here.

Galevan: (from behind) No one's going anywhere! Balzac, attack! RedJupiter, meet my friend.

(Betagotch appears from behind the monster. The large screen on his head is glowing.)

Betagotch: Care to play?

RedJupiter: We're way outnumbered here! One of us has got to go to the machine and free the others.

AquaMercury: I already sent a message to them. I think they can get out on their own.

(In the machine.)

Amy: Bryan! Scottie! Jill! Anyone! Help!

Eric: Jill! Bryan! Laura! Get us out of here! (after tiring) I don't think I can scream anymore...

Amy: I think I know a way out of this.

Eric: How?

Announcer: Shoot for the Silver Ball!

Eric: Works for me!

(The two run for the "Silver Ball" ramp. At the end of the long tunnel, they see two tunnels.)

Amy: Two tunnels? Usually this kind of thing only has one.

Eric: One of these things lead outside. We gotta make a break. (Cyber Loader goes off) A message.

When you go for the Silver Ball ramp, turn left!
The right path will only lead you back to the
playing field!

Laura

VOICE: (-----|-----)

Eric: You heard Laura, let's go!

Amy: (while running) Ranger files, download!

(The two head out just in time to transform and help the Rangers fight the Balzac. After a while, the Balzac leave the Rangers alone.)

YellowVenus: Where did the Betamon go?

RedJupiter: The Balzac were just a diversion. The real threat is from Betagotch.

AquaMercury: And we fought them, just in time for the Namrocks to make their escape.

GridRanger: I'm getting something! (checks her Grid Loader) They're at the park. Betagotch is turning everyone there into virtual pets and such.

BlueNeptune: That was unexpected.

RedJupiter: We better hunt them down. We'll use the NetStation.

YellowVenus: Let's get to the Station!

(The Rangers head for the Station bridge to hunt down Betagotch. The Rangers find him in the park and begin shooting at him.)

Betagotch: What the?

GreenMars: Yo! Up here!

Betagotch: This game is over!

RedJupiter: I'm afraid it's just beginning!

Hexalink: You're right about that. Enlarge Betagotch!

(Hexalink shoots some energy into Betagotch, causing him to grow. He immediately heads to the outskirts of town.)

RedJupiter: Follow him!

(The Netstation turns away from the city and hears for the outskirts. When it arrives, the Rangers find Betagotch and begin shooting rounds at it.)

YellowVenus: I don't get it! They're not even touching Betagotch!

Betagotch: I'm hungry for a battle! Gotchipets, emerge!

(Two monsters come out of the Betagotch's screen and begin shooting at the ship.)

Hexalink: That's it! Bring it down!

GridRanger: Something has to be done about this!

RedJupiter: What about the Server Cycles?

BlueNeptune: Online and ready! We'll give you enough time to call on GridTitan, Jill.

GridRanger: Let's do it!

(The Rangers mount the Server Cycles and head for the monster's screen.)

AquaMercury: Take out the screen!

(The Rangers form the MD Cannon and fire it. It hits the screen and glass shards star firing.)

Betagotch: That's it. You just made me mad. I'm through playing this game. Gotchi-One! Gotchi-Two! Merge! (The three monsters combine to form BetaPet.)

BetaPet: With this newfound power I can... Wait... What's this?

Namrock: (on his regenerated screen) Come back here. We have bigger plans!

BetaPet: Well, all right.

(He Digiwindows out, leaving the Rangers in the air.)

GridRanger: How are we doing?

RedJupiter: (on his Server Cycle) Not too good, Jill. (sighs) We'll meet him again.

Fin... for now.
