I am trying to build a Doctor Strange desktop theme for Win95 and Windows NT.
So far I have made a wallpaper image, and a set of start-up, waiting, and shutdown logo screens. The whole set of four images may be downloaded as a ZIP FILE [810K].

wallpaper image This started out as a scan of a cover image which I
retouched in Photoshop a little to make it works better as a desktop wallpaper
file. [The image is 1000*750 so it will fill your screen nicely at most resolutions. It will have to be re-sized to fit smaller resolutions.] If people want different resolutions or color depths let me know by e-mail and I'll see what I can do. The original image was the cover art for Doctor Strange Sorcerer Supreme volume 83, November, 1995 |

Animated Start-up Screen This is the first panel of the very first appearance of Doctor Strange [to my knowledge anyway]. It seemed appropriate to have Doc's FIRST appearance for the start-up screen, and for the shutdown, his LAST... In this comic the Doc has not yet received his full powered Eye, or Cloak, as described below, and so does not appear in the costume most people are familiar with. This image is a scan from a high quality reprint of the original Doctor Strange story, in Strange Tales #110. The art was by Steve Ditko, with lettering by Terry Szenics, for a story by Stan Lee, the creator of our sorcerer supreme. [The reprint, a Marvel Milestone Edition, includes Strange Tales #110, 11, 114 and 115. It is a very nice introduction to the first Doc. And it even has the original ads - A Mike Marvel muscle workout anyone?] |

Waiting Screen This is an image of the Eye of Agamotto, one of Doc's Favorite magical tools, which he received from his master, the Ancient One, after completing his apprenticeship. I created the image from scratch in Photoshop, based on the appearance of the eye in the comic series. The red and yellow squiggly image is a copy of the trim design on the Doc's Cloak of Levitation, another gift from his mentor, which he has always used to great advantage. I did a seamless tile of it to use on the web site, which you can grab in the table with the greeting image above. [background on the lower right hand corner] |

Shutdown Screen This is a scan of the very LAST image of Doctor Strange from his most recent comic series. He has appeared in other comics since, but this was the last image from a comic of his own... The Doc now wears a repaired and enhanced version of the Eye, and he has had his Cloak remade into a trench coat after it was damaged in battle. The new look created for Doc was very fresh. and it is too bad that the series was cancelled so soon after the designer created this exciting style for him. This image is from a scan of the last page of Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme, Vol.1, No. 90, June 1996. Pencils were by Mark Buckingham, ink by Kev Sutherland and color by Kevin Somers. |
I am still planning on making icons, and a set of suitably STRANGE system sounds, but since I currently have NO CLUE how to program a screen saver from scratch, I don't anticipate making a screen saver anytime soon. There are ample shareware screensavers that do slide shows out there, so if you want you can download other images here and make your own that way... If anyone out there feels like doing some programming and wants to collaborate on a screen saver I would be REALLY happy to put it up here. : )
