Blunt Impact Wound Damage


or what do you mean it felt like a sledgehammer hit me in the chest?

Ok, here's the deal. Whenever you ask a cop what hurt when he got shot while wearing a vest, he will generally say that it felt like a sledgehammer hit him in the chest. This is not represented well by the Cyberpunk Core rules in my opinion. So I have come up with a system to represent this.

Blunt Impact Wound Damage


Blunt impact wound damage(BIWD) occurs when the bullet fails to penetrate the soft armor involved. Hard armor will prevent this damage, as it doesn't flex with the impact. This damage is rolled after the initial penetrative damage has been attempted. Damage done by blunt impact is stun only, but is applied against half the sp of the armor involved. If 9 points(Critical wound from no wounds)is taken in 1 shot, the damage over 9 does 1 point of real damage per point. For example, Johnny is shot by a shotgun with slugs in the chest. His light armor jacket manages to stop the bullet, buy he takes blunt impact wound damage. The shooter rolls his damage and gets 23(he really wishes he got that the first damage roll :)). This is applied against Johnny's 7 sp from his light armor jacket, so 16 gets through. The initial 9 is taken away leaving 7 points getting through. This is real damage, most likely from broken ribs. The other 9 points is stun damage.

How to figure out how much a gun does


This system is relatively simple. A gun does one half of its damage dice in blunt impact wound damage. For example, a gun that does 4d6+3 would do 2d6+1 in Blunt Impact Damage. Ammunition can affect this greatly. AP rounds cause only 1/4 of its damage instead of 1/2. DP rounds will do normal damage and other specialty rounds are determined by what they do. Shotguns are also different. Normal shotgun ammunition does 3/4 of its damage in blunt wounds. Slugs from shotguns do FULL damage in blunt impact damage.

Other weapons besides guns can cause this damage, although they will not generally be as effective at it as firearms. Bludgeoning type melee weapons cause 1/4 of their normal damage in BIWD. Stabbing and slashing melee weapons do 1 pt only.
