Visurl picked his way along the winding paths that criss-crossed the cave riddled cliff. He sighed. Life was boring in the Starshaper's Den, even for the son of a chief. He meandered over to his cave, where he lived. He would go hunting, he decided. There was nothing better to do. After Visurl had grabbed his bow and arrrow, he headed out to the savanna. There would be many small game animals there. As soon as Visurl reached the savannna, he wat against a tree to wait. He had not been sitting there for very long before he heard a small rustling. Silently, he turned and, scanning the ground, saw a small bushy-tail. He raised his bow and fit an arrow on to the string. He sighted along the straight, smooth wood of the bow and was about to release when he heard a soft, pitiful mewling sound. Visurl payed no attention at first, but when it started again, he realized that there was something imploring about it.
He lowered his bow and headed toward the sound. In a few minutes, he came across a clearing. In the center of the clearing was the large, still body of a mother longtooth. Next to the body, was a small bundle of fur, that was gently pawing and mewing at the still body. Visurl felt his heart melt. Nobody could resistt a baby.
Visurl approached the kitten, speaking softly. It turned, then shrank against the large, tawny body of it's mother. He walked closer. It turned it's head from side to side, as if deciding whether to stay with it's mother, or run.
It chose the latter. With a small hiss, it jumped with amazing grace and speed and darted off into the woods.
Visurl followed, not quite sure what he was getting into...
