Michael Kelland Frank Hutchence

"Eternally wild with a power to make every moment come alive, all the stars shine upon you as they kiss you every night."--Mystify, Kick, 1987

On November 22, 1997, a part of me died when I heard the news that Michael Hutchence, lead singer of INXS, had died earlier that same day. At the all too young age of 37, Michael committed suicide in a hotel room, by himself. Many say that this was not a suicide -- that it was an accident, or even a murder, as there was no note left behind. Sadly enough, I believe it was suicide, that there was a part of Michael no one quite knew about. To this world Michael leaves behind a beautiful daughter, Heavenly Heraani Tigerlily Hutchence, known affectionately as "Tiger." If that little girl turns out to be half as talented as her father, the world will be truly blessed. Tiger, if you ever see this, know that your father was a special man, who touched many hearts, mine certainly counted among them.

"And if I hurt you I'd make wine from your tears...I told you that we could fly, cause we all have wings, but some of us don't know why."--Never Tear Us Apart, Kick, 1987

My profile on AOL contains a line from one of INXS' more recent songs (from their last album with Michael, Elegantly Wasted), "We're Thrown Together." I've had it in there for quite some time now, but on December 8, 1998, I received this email:

Subj: Michael Hutchence

Lovely profile, lovely personal quote. Michael would have loved it. I just wanted to let you know that it's really nice to see this kind of thing. I was a friend of Michael's, and it's good to know he won't soon be forgotten. Thank you.

This was really very touching, and I nearly cried upon reading it. I am on INXS mailing lists and discuss Michael and the rest of the band on a regular basis, but this was the most heartfelt thing I've ever read. And if you, YarrowLtf, ever read this, thank YOU.

Michael, I must say that I miss you every day of my life. I'm not one for sentimentality, but this is the truth. I can only hope that you're in a happier place now...smile down on us every once in a while and oh...say hello to Jill Farriss for me, another angel in the Heavens.
