I am death upon a bridge
I watch as you rise above the ridge
With your sword of strength and your shield of courage
Yet to me you can do no damage
~
Countless battlefields I have crossed
I know the faces of those you have lost
Yet still you towards me you march
Looking very much ready to fight
You will not win
Though try as you might
~
I have brought down the strong, the terse and the brave
The righteous and the magnanimous fell before me slain
I have brought down the noble, the valiant, the just
For even the greatest of men must someday turn to dust
~
Why not just embrace me?
As you would a gentle friend
For death may be another beginning
And not just some bittersweet end
~
If you wish to live on, prepare a legacy then
Leave great deeds to be learned and emulated, so you might live on in other men
