The Mercs
The first usage of mercenary soldiers by a megacorp was practiced by Merendine at 2013. Merendine had hired a group of 4 mercenaries (the first Mercs group) for an assault on a rival company. This started a new era in the corporate rivalry. Mercenary groups became proficient in corporate related missions (sabotage, espionage, information retrieval, extraction, etc.), and were hired for quasi-legal and illegal missions. As time moved on, more and more civilians began using these mercenary groups - not only corporations, but also regular citizens needing special services, used mercenaries for their own needs. These specialized mercenary groups became known as Mercs (Mercenaries Elite Running Civilian Services).
At 2017 the Guild was founded. The Guild was an illegal organization which served as a house for all Mercs groups. When someone needs Mercs, he contacts the guild and they match a group which specializes in whatever he needs. The guild put an official stamp on the Mercs, though they dont actually exist on any database. It takes a monthly membership pay of $1000 for a group to become a member of the guild, and a contribution of 10% of the final payment.
After a while, professional groups became well known and started to work independently of the Guild. These freelance Mercs use fixers to organize their business. Usually the groups still keep their Guild membership, mostly because of the Guilds traditional role for the Mercs. The fixers take a smaller fee (usually they dont bother the Mercs with the fee, but rather take it directly from the clients), and have valuable street connection which a Mercs group can use (they can get you almost anything).
At 2031, the Mercs are an important part of society, used by megacorps, civilians, and rumors have it that even the police and the government uses Mercs.
