The dimly lit living room glowed from the light of the
computer screen. Fox Mulder's eyes danced behind his reading
glasses as he typed furiously. He glanced down at the file
opened in front of him and was startled when a resounding knock
echoed through the tiny apartment.
Mulder cursed, then stumbled in the darkness to his door and flung
it open. Standing in the hallway was a young girl with
long, dark hair that fell down her back. She wore a blue and
white checked dress with a white sash around her waist that
matched the ribbon in her hair. Her green eyes shone next to
her pale skin like emeralds, icy cold.
Mulder gasped, paling in seconds. He snatched the glasses
off his face and stared at the girl before him. A lump formed
in his throat, and he could barely gasp, "Samantha?"
She walked forward slowly, her steps echoing in the empty
hallway. She threw her suitcase at his feet, glared at him, and
growled, "Not likely. Don't you remember me? I'm Jennifer,
your cousin." She grabbed her suitcase and pushed past Mulder
into his apartment.
Mulder's anxious fingers fumbled at the light switch and was
almost blinded by the sudden bright light. He sat Jen on the
couch, himself on the coffee table and stared deeply into her
eyes.
"I already told you. I'm not Samantha. I'm not your
sister. Why can't you believe me?" Jen demanded.
"When you first moved here, my father and I came to see
you," Jen told him as she sauntered over to the couch and sat
down. "I was about four, and the two of you left me alone in
here. I knocked over that end table and it made the dent in the
wall."
Mulder's eager expression fell. "Well, Jen," Mulder
stuttered. "Where's your dad?" Did he come with you?"
Jen gritted her teeth and looked down at her hands. "My
father's dead. He was in a car crash last week," she told him
calmly. "You're all I've got left."
Mulder slumped into the couch, the full impact of Jen's
words taking effect.
"Are you married, Fox?"
"No!" cried Mulder and glared at her. He didn't even let
his parents call him Fox. "Where did you get that idea?"
"Scully?" Jen asked with a sly smile.
"She's my partner...and how do you know about her?" Mulder
asked. Jen raised her eyebrows in a classic Scully
imitation.
Mulder shuddered and sank deeper into the couch. He stared
blankly at the ceiling, desperately trying to decide what to do
next.

Monday, 10:25 p.m.
Dana Scully stretched out on her couch, book in hand. She
ran a hand through her auburn hair and turned the page
expectantly when her phone rang.
"Never fails," she muttered, "Scully."
"I really need your advice on this one, Scully," Mulder told
her, pacing his bedroom.
"Okay," answered Scully fearfully.
"This evening, I opened my door to see a vision of Samantha.
She looked exactly like Samanth did when she was abducted
twenty-three years ago--when she was eight years old."
Scully's eyebrows shot skyward and started to protest, "But
Mulder..."
"She's my cousin, Scully. Her name is Jennifer, and her
father died in a car accident last week. Unfortunately, she
bares a striking resemblance to Samantha. I'm supposed to take
her in, but I don't know what to do. I haven't been around kids
for years, and it's hard enough to live with my sister's
disappearance without having to live with her evil twin."
"Mulder, you have to put it all behind you. It wasn't your
fault. Stop blaming yourself." Scully grinned. "I'm sorry.
It's just that maybe having Jennifer live with you will help you
confront your past."
"Yeah, and then three spirits will come to me in the night
and teach me the true meaning of Christmas. I'll see you
tomorrow, Scully."

Monday, 10:45 p.m.
In the darkness of Mulder's living room, Jennifer lay on the
couch, hearing every word of their conversation.
"Don't worry, Fox," Jen whispered into the darkness, "Samantha's alive,
and she's waiting for you."
First the dark room, then the blinding, paralyzing
light. It all came back to Mulder in bursts of painful
memories. The shadowy figure, his sister Samantha being
lifted into the air, and his screams of terror mixed with hers.
Suddenly, silence, total darkness, and he was all alone.
Mulder awoke with a start. He just couldn't get her
abduction out of his mind. He threw off his covers and
stumbled out of the room.
He paused at the doorway of the living room and gazed
at Jennifer. She looked exactly like Samantha. He stood
there, staring at Jen and thinking about Samantha until
tears came to his eyes.
Jen waited until Mulder had crept back to his room to
open her eyes again.

FBI Headquarters
Washington, DC
Tuesday, 7 a.m.
Scully was reading a recent case file while leaning
on her desk when the door opened. Mulder strode into
the room with Jen at his heels.
"So, Fox, who's your little friend?" Jen asked him
sarcastically.
Mulder gave Scully a wry smile and put a hand on
Jen's shoulder.
The child made Scully's heart stop. She looked
exactly like Mulder. Her dark hair and green eyes were
a perfect match, only colder and more distant.
"Jen, I'd like you to meet my partner, Dana Scully.
Scully, this is my cousin, Jennifer."
"Hello, Jennifer. It's nice to meet you," Scully
told her, smiling warmly. Jen shrank behind Mulder and
held his hand.
Scully gave Mulder a doubtful look and started down
the hall to his office. Mulder gestured for Jen to follow
them, then walked next to Scully. Scully had to crane her
neck to look up into Mulder's face. Standing at only
five foot-three, Scully felt awkward walking next to
Mulder, who is six feet tall.
"She calls you Fox?"
Mulder shrugged.
"And you brought her here with you?"
"I had no other choice. Jen insisted on getting an
IQ and equivalency test this afternoon. She won't start
school until tommarrow. The wierd thing is, I don't feel
like myself when I'm around her." He stopped to open the
door for Scully. "And I'm not sure what you said, Scully,
but I don't think Jen likes you."
"No kidding," agreed Scully, with an exasperated
sigh. She held open the door and waited for Jen.
The girl walked slowly down the long hallway, her
steps echoing on the bare walls. Each step was slow and
deliberate, almost calculated, and completely unnerving.
Her trance-like stare and glaring eyes were filled with
nothing but disgust and utter hatred.
Jen brushed past Scully into Mulder's office and
almost knocked Scully off her feet.

Alexandria Police Department
Tuesday, 9 a.m.
Jen stood by the door of the interrogation room and
grabbed the sleeve of Mulder's jacket as he rushed by her.
She pulled as hard as she could, knocking him off his feet.
Jen stood over Mulder and pushed him back into a sitting
position when he struggled to get up.
"Fox, listen to me, and listen good. That man lied
to you. This case is definately not an X-File."
Scully walked out of the interrogation room and stopped
dead in her tracks. Jen whirled around and fixed her green
eyes upon Scully.
Mulder stood up cautiously and started to walk out
to his car. When Mulder glanced over his shoulder at Jen,
she called, "Not so fast, Fox," with her back still turned.
The next thing he knew, he was falling headlong over a sofa.
Jen sauntered over to him and put a foot on his
chest. Mulder laid on his back, wincing in pain. The
anger boiled up inside him and fought the urge to throw her across the room.
Jen gazed deeply into his eyes and sneered, "Now, now,
Fox. Let's not restort to violence. Besides," she told him,
turning to glare at Scully, "I'm right." And with that, she
turned and marched out to the car.
"Mulder, are you all right?" asked Scully as she helped
him to his feet. Mulder nodded. He didn't have the strength
to speak.
"What happened? One second, the sofa was along the wall
over there, and the next it was in the middle of the floor.
No one was anywhere near it when it moved."
Mulder gingerly touched his head and grimaced in pain.
"I think I should finish questioning him before Jen tries
to pound some more sense into me. Don't you think so,
Scully?" he asked with a wane smile and limped into the
interrogation room. "For some strange reason, I think he's
been lying to me."

Apt. 42
Alexandria, VA
Tuesday, 6 p.m.
Mulder stormed into his apartment and threw his case
folder against the wall. Jen appeared in the doorway, sighed,
and rubbed her eyes.
"Fox, it was for your own good. He would have sent you
on a wild goose chase. You've gotten the correct information
now."
"Have I? It's so nice to know that you have all the
answers."
"Sarcasm will get you nowhere, Fox. Why do you keep all
of your anger bottled up like that? It's not good for you.
Let it out. Come on," challenged Jen. "Go ahead. Yell
at me. You know you want to."
Mulder paced the living room, running his hands through
his hair. He wanted to scream but his throat closed up.
Jen crepted up behind him and put and hand on his
shoulder. When she whispered, "Fox?" he shrugged her off
and retreated to his desk.
"Mulder," Jen persisted. "You gave me know other
choice. You understand that don't you? You get too excited
sometimes. I had to stop you." Jen stopped and rolled her
eyes. "Great," she muttered and dropped to the couch. "Fox,
your phone."
As if on cue, the phone on the table rang. Mulder
glanced at Jen and picked up the phone. "Mulder...Yes
Scully, I'll be ready."
"When to you leave?" asked Jen coldly.
"In an hour. Will you be all right here by yourself?"
Mulder sat next to her and put his head in his hands.
Jen only nodded and the two sat in silence. She
continued staring at the wall and told him, "I'm just as
human as you. I'm not an extraterrestrial."
Mulder's head snapped up. "I didn't say that,"
he told her quietly.
"No, but that's what you were thinking. I'm not an
alien, nor have I ever been abducted. I'm just like you.
Well, almost."
"Then what are you? Who are you?" Mulder demanded
and turned to face her.
"You know exactly who I am. What am I? Well,
that's an entirely different question all together."
She paused, and took a deep breath. "I'm not exactly
sure myself, actually. I don't know the full extent of
my powers quite yet. Do you want your phone?" she asked.
The table slid forward across the floor. Mulder's
eyes grew wide and he jumped off the couch.
The table returned to its proper place as Jen stood up.
"I never met her," Jen explained to him. "She was
gone before I was born. You should start packing, Fox.
She'll be mad if you're late." Mulder nodded slightly but
made no move to leave the couch.
Jen slipped out of the room and walked down the hall.
"Oh, and by the way," Jen called as she left, "I think you
should let her drive."

1.
Route 1
Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.
"Scully, I just don't understand it," said Mulder as
he sped down the highway. "Remember when I told you that
Jen was getting tested?" he asked.
Scully nodded. Mulder reached behind his seat and
groped for his bag. He pulled out a folder and handed it
to Scully. She opened the folder and skimmed its contents.
Her eyes widened and turned to face him.
"Mulder, according to these tests, Jen's IQ is
over 200." He said nothing and kept his eyes on the
road. "The school is moving her up into the fifth grade,
which I find hard to believe. Have you talked to her recently?"
"Not exactly," Mulder answered her. "She did most
of the talking. In fact, she hardly let me get a word
in edgewise. Whenever I was about to ask her a question,
she'd answer me before the words got out of my mouth."
"Well, what did she tell you?"
Mulder laughed and said, "Let's see. First she
assured me that she was neither an alien, nor had she
ever been abducted." Scully raised an eyebrow. "Then,
she told me that she doesn't know what she is. She
doesn't know the extent of her powers."
"Her powers?" Scully asked in disbelief.
"Yeah. Next thing I knew, my end table moved
over towards me. I didn't touch it and neither
did Jen."
Scully looked mildly confused. "But Mulder,
that's impossible. Inaminate objects can't move on
their own."
"Scully, I don't think it moved on its own," Mulder
told her and glanced at her face. "I think Jen moved it.
That's the only possible explanation for what happened
yesterday morning."
A truck appeared in from of them. It was coming
straight at them.
"Mulder!" Scully screamed and instinctively put her
arms in from of her face.

Alexandria Elementry School
Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.
Jennifer stood nervously before the class. The only
thing she hated more than being the youngest and smallest
was being the new kid.
"Jennifer, why don't you tell us a little bit about
yourself?" her teacher asked.
Jen glared nondesreetly throughout the class before she
started to speak. "My dad died last week in a car accident,
and I came to stay with my cousin, Fox."
An overpowering wave of danger washed over Jen so
strongly that she had to lean on her teacher's desk for
support.
"Fox?" she whispered, putting a hand to her head.
"Jennifer, are you all right?" her teacher asked as
she put a hand on Jen's shoulder and squatting down so that
they were eye level.
Jen gasped and fled the room. "Fox! No!" Jen screamed
as she ran frantically down the hall. "I told you not to
drive!"
She ran all the way back to mulder's apartment and
hurled herself inside, breathing heavily. Jen threw
herself at the phone and dialed Mulder's cellular
screeching, "Pick up Fox, pick up."
3.
Route 81
Wednesday, 8:45 a.m.
Mulder hit the breaks and triend to turn the car
away from the oncoming truck. The tires screeched on
the asphalt, but the truck plowed into them nevertheless.
Mulder and Scully bounced like rag dolls in their
tiny car, then were hit by the car following them. Mulder's
head hit the window with a sharp crack, and slowly drifted
into darkness. The last thing he could remember before
plunging into unconsciousness was the ringing of
his phone.
4.
Scranton General Hospital
Wednesday, 5:12 p.m.
Mulder groggily opened his green eyes and squinted
in the bright hospital lights. He tried to sit up, but
the pain rocketing into his skull made him lye down.
Jen hovered over MUlder and shispered to him
soothingly. She stroked his dark brown hair lovingly,
but with her usual chilling stare. Mulder's eyes popped
open and opened his mouth to speak.
"Scully's fine, Fox," she assured him. "Surprisingly,
she made it out of the crash with minimal injuries."
"Where am I?" Mulder asked and closed his eyes.
"You're in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I called
your little friend and she had me on the next plane.
The doctors are keeping you here overnight just to be
safe. You have a concussion" Jen sighed and closed
her eyes. "Fox, I distinctly remember telling you not
to drive!" Mulder struggled to sit up and Jen helped
him with stony silence.
"Where's Scully?" Mulder demanded.
"I made her wait outside. There's something I
need to tell you." Jen stopped and glared at the door.
"Scully," she called, "you may as well come in.
Eavesdropping is a rather nasty habit."
Scully entered the room sheepishly and gave
Mulder a silent, "Are you okay?" look. When he nodded
slightly, starting another nind shattering headache, she
sat in a chair on Mulder's left.
"Fox, you have to listen to me, and I mean it this
time. You are in grave danger. I can sense it coming closer."
Mulder shifted his gaze to Scully who raised
her eyebrows in her famous look of skepticism.
"Scully, can I see you outside for a minute?" Jen
asked, her eyes full of murderous hatred. Scully glanced
back a Mulder and left the room.
Jen followed her out of the room and quietly closed
the door as she stelpped into the hallway. "Look Scully,
I can't see how Fox can put up with your crap, but I won't.
I need his help, but until you can believe things like Fox
can, he won't be able to. As much as I hate to admit it,
he depends on you for sulpport. Emontionally, he may not
be able to handle the information without you," explained
Jen.
Scully listened to her speech carefully. Jen was so
much like Mulder, it was scary. Unfortunately, she also
had the same wild ideas and beliefs of her cousin. She
opened her mouth to speak when Jen interrupted her.
"I'm not going to lie to you," she told Scully. "I
don't like you, but I respect you, and I need your help.
Fox and I have to meet with my principal on Saturday
afternoon. You've known him longer than me, and I'd like
you to tell him. I'll be in the waiting room."
Scully watched in disbelief as Jen turned and fled
down the hall.
"What did she want?" Mulder asked as Scully entered
the room.
"She wants me to tell you that the two of you have
to meet with her principal Saturday afternoon."
"It took her that long to tell you that? Sue must be
in big trouble."
"No, she also told me that I have to learn to believe
things like you can." Mulder snickered under his breath
and Scully silenced him with a look. "If I can't you won't
be able to help her or emotionally handle what she has to
say>"
Mulder closed his eyes and leaned back against the
pillows. This kid was getting wierder by the minute.
FOUR

1.
2763 S. Queen Street
Washington DC
Friday, 1:30 p.m.
Mulder shifted uncomfortably in his chair. Ever since
he underwent regression hypnosis, he couldn't he couldn't
stand shrinks' offices. Jen sat next to him in silence,
her feet not even touching the floor. Her eyes lacked
every emotion except hatred, cold and unnerving.
She slid off her chair and slowly walked towards the
door. Mulder hesitantly rose to his feet and followed Jen,
stopping at her side.
The door opened and a woman in her forties appeared.
"Jennifer Mulder?" she called into the waiting room.
Jen brushed past her into the room before the woman
could move out of her way. Mulder smiled sheepishly and
followed Jen. She sat on the leather couch opposite the
desk and patted the spot next to her. Mulder sat as Dr.
Decker closed the door and walked to her desk. She sat
back and made a mental note of the two.
The man as as pale as a ghost, and his green
eyes were tired and glassy. He looked like a secret-
service man in his suit and trench coat. The girl sat
silently and unmoving. Her dark hair was the same shade
as his, and fell down her back. In her floral dress that
fell just past her knees, china white tights and black
patent leather shoes, she looked like a living doll.
Her green eyes were cold as ice with a disturbing
stare.
"What am I supposed to do?" asked Jen, obviously
irritated. Mulder put a hand on her shoulder to quiet
her, but she shrugged it off. "Should I tell you my
life story while you sit there staring at me?"
"Jen," whispered Mulder with a troubled look
on his face. He placed his hand on her shoulder
once more.
"You keep out of this, Fox," Jen snarled and
shoved his hand off her shoulder. Dr. Decker watched
them silently.
Initial hypothesis: merely an attitude problem.
"Do you really want to know?" Jen screamed and
jumped off the couch. Dr Decker watched in disbelief
as her coffee mug slid across her desk on its own and
shattered into a million pieces. Jen flung herself
onto the couch and buried her face in Mulder's shirt
sobbing uncontrollably. He hesitantly put his hand atop
her hean and stroked her hair silently.
Suddenly, Jennifer tore herself from Mulder and sat
upright, stiff as a board. Her eyes darted back and forth
around the room frantically.
"Fox," Jen whispered shakily, "it's getting closer.
The evil is only a few days away." She started to shake
uncontrollably, and silent tears ran down either side of
her face. "If you don't listen to me, you will die, and I
will not be held accountable!" she told him, her voice
cresendoing into a frustrated scream.
Jen turned to Dr. Decker in a blind rage. She
leaned on the front of her desk and glared down at her.
"You never believed anyone who claimed to be a telepath
or anything in the paranormal. You're looking at one now
and you still can't believe!" Jen ran from the room and
slammed the door on her way out.
"Was it just me, or do you think she has a multiple
personality disorder too?"
"She's right," Dr. Decker told Mulder in awe, "She's
a telepath, clairvoyant, and psychokenetic. She has the
gift."
Jen reappeared in the door way. "Make shre your
calendar is clear for tomorrow at three o'clock. You
may get a phone call from my principal." Jen stopped
and glared at Dr. Decker. "So, you finally believe."
Jen shifted her gaze to Mulder and commanded, "Come on
Fox. We have much to discuss."
2.
Apt. 42
Alexandria, VA
Friday, 3 p.m.
Mulder unlocked the door to his apartment and trudged
into the living room.
"Fox, why is it that you can believe that aliens and
monsters are here on earth, yet you can't believe me?"
Jen asked as she followed him. "Just because I'm your
cousin doesn't mean I can't be one of them. You're just
like Scully! I thought you were a believer."
"I want to believe," he whispered with his eyes
cast downward.
"Should I leave not and spare you the pain?" She
asked quietly. "They will learn of me and when they do,
they'll come for me as they did Samantha. That's why
I need your help."
Mulder's blood began to boil. "Why me?" he shouted,
turning to Jen who stood motionless in the doorway.
Her evil eyes caught the light spilling into the room.
"Why not?"
Before Mulder realized what had happened, Jen
had fled the apartment and ran down the hall. Mulder
ran after her only to see the doors of the elevator
close with Jen behind them.
He cursed, then ran down the stairs on the left.
He caught her as she raced out of the elevator and
shoved her back inside.
"What is the matter with you?" Mulder screamed
at Jen who stared at him expressionlessly. "You tell
me that you want to spare me pain and then try to
disappear on me just like she did!"
Jen laughed and said, "Congratulations, Fox.
You passed." She strolled back to the apartment
with Mulder following her.
"I'm so glad you find this amusing."
Jen entered the apartment and sat down on the
couch. "I'm sorry. I wasn't sure you would actually
be able to help me, so I had to give you a little test.
I have the answers you seek," Jen whispered, "but you'll
have to trust me."
3.
Alexandria Elementary School
Saturday, 3 p.m.
"Well, I suppose you both know why you're here,"
Mr. Bashore said. Mulder and Scully glanced at each
other and then back at the principal. Jen stood
behind Mulder's chair in stony silence.
"She didn't tell you? Well, on Wednesday morning,
Jennifer's teacher called me. Apparently Jennifer had
run screaming from her class and has not returned since.
We tried to call you, but there was no answer. We got a
call from Jennifer on Thursday afternoon telling us that
she and her father would meet with me. And I have yet to
recieve her records from her previous school."
Mulder leaned forward slightly and Jen put her hand
on his shoulder. "I'm not sure that I can explain what
happened, but I do have a hypothesis."
Jen leaned forward over the back of his chair and
whispered, "Why are you telling him this when even you
don't believe it?"
Mulder faced Bashore and took a deep breath. "On
Wednesday morning, Scully and I were on our way to New York
when we were in a car accident. When I regained
consciousness, I was in a hospital in Pennsylvania, and
Jen was with me. Yesterday, I took her to a child
psychologist who told me that she is a telepath, clairvoyant,
and psychokinetic. I believe that when the sensed that
I was in danger, she ran from her classroom in an attempt
to stop the accident."
Scully gave Mulder a sideways glance. He'd never
mentioned any of this to her. "Mr. Mulder, you have
got to be kidding," Bashore laughed. "This is some kind
of joke, isn't it?"
Jen stepped out from behind Mulder and made the
telephone move to Bashore, who jumped out of his chair.
"Since you don't believe Fox, ask an expert. Call
Dr. Decker." Jen grabbed Mulder's hand. "Let's go, Fox."
She started to leave his office, then stopped dead
in her tracks, making Mulder stumble in an attempt not
to fall over her. Jen turned to Bashore and said,
"I'll see you again on Monday," with a sly smile,
she pulled Mulder after her as she left the room.
