    Late Summer, 1992:

    DISSAPPOINTING!

This isn't as good as "The Cage", and doesn't seem as meaningful. The story, however, is good. Strong and solid, just not as good as some Star Trek episodes. For instance, it's similar to - and weaker than - Charlie X. It starts off strong, but degenerates slightly as it goes on. Pace wise, the episode moves slowly, but because of that it resembles "The Motion Picture" in that it creates a believable sense of actually being in space.

Characters: Interesting to note that, from the very start, Kirk and Spock work well together as a team. The characterisation of Kirk is nicely explored. And Spock is well documented, too, much more so than in "The Cage". The female doctor, however, is a weak character.

Best Actor: Shatner. But to be fair, Lockwood and Shatner both turn in good performances. Shatner is just better, that's all!

Best Scene: Spock logically telling Kirk what must be done.

Worst Scene: The Yeoman Smith/Jones mix-up. (It's not funny or warm).

Great Moments: The first use of Lockwoods eyes is a show stopper. Also the fact that he realises he's being watched from afar and turns to face his unseen observer. Chilling.

FX: All the effects, and especially the eye make-up, are great. Nice uniforms, too.

GRADE: A-
