the ultimate computer

2C24

Sept 29th, 1993: GREAT ONE.
A wonderful character piece, with focus on Kirk.
This one really gets to the heart of him, and who he is. It is also one of the most profound outings. It's subject matter includes: the good in man, the bad in man, the need for power/control, the urge to survive, experience vs. knowledge, etc.
The evil in this episode comes from man's dark side. That is what was imposed on the computer and that is what... killed. The savation in this episode comes from man's good side. That is what Wesley displayed when he trusted the defenceless Enterprise. Having Kirk point this out is what makes the episode a classic.
This story gives the four main regulars a lot to do.
Characters: Kirk
Spock, McCoy, Scotty
Daystrom, Wesley
Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, Harper

This one has some great Spock/McCoy moments. Both of them contribute a lot to the story.
Best Scene: Spock explains about loyalty to a captain (i.e. to Kirk). Lovely.
Overall, a character driven story with a lot of perceptive observations. Trek at it's best.

GRADE: A+
