August 14th 1993:
GOOD POLITICAL GAMES.
This one starts slow and builds up to a very exciting finish. It tells us more about Kira, about her dark past, and it shows that she trusts Odo more than Sisko.
I found her conflict-of-loyalties a bit tiresome to be honest, a by-the-book way of examining her. And the conversation with Odo was full of tired old phrases and clichés. Yawnsville.
Much, much better was the thread build around Bashir and the Cardassian Tailor. This was splendid fun. I hope the tailor becomes a semi-regular.
Characters:
|
Kira, Sisko; |
Bashir, Odo, Cardassian Tailor, O'Brien |
|
Tahna Los |
|
Dax, Lursa, B'Etor, Cardassian Commander |
Neither Quark nor Jake were featured in this episode.
Likeable characters so far: Kira, Bashir, Quark, Odo. I prefer Kira's hair longer, by the way. It's more feminine. She handled herself great in the fight. She's strong and dynamic and still the best character in the show. Odo, meanwhile, talks like Spock and Data in the observation on "pretence". Which isn't a surprise, really, since he's the Data/Spock character (but do they have to be so obvious about it!)
Tahna's motive (destroying the wormhole) was excellent.
Best Scene: The runabout chase. These runabouts will take some getting used to. I foresee an episode set inside a runabout.
Last week I saw "Realm Of Fear" and I instantly wanted to watch it all over again. The same is true of "Man Of The People" but that hasn't happened yet with DS9.
