Q: What is a PBEM (Play By E-Mail) game?
A: A PBEM (Play By E-Mail) game is a game where players receive an e-mail turn from the game master that describes their current situation and the players send in an e-mail turn reply that indicates their words and actions in response. Thus moves are made and play continues with the game events unfolding and the players taking appropriate action to achieve their aims and goals.

Q: What is Heroes of Redmarch?
A: Heroes of Redmarch is a D&D 3rd Edition (Dungeons & Dragons) based PBEM set in and around the lands of Redmarch on the continent of Kierqualon in a world ruled by magic and the sword and follows the adventures of a band of brave heroes.

Q: Does it cost to play Heroes of Redmarch?
A: There are no turn fees involved in playing Heroes of Redmarch though obviously players have to pay their own Internet charges, etc.

Q: Can I play Heroes of Redmarch straight away?
A: No, not initially. New player requests are only ever sent to the Lurkers. If you are not a Lurker then you will never get the opportunity to be a player.

Q: What is a Lurker?
A: A Lurker is someone who has subscribed to the game mailing list and receives copies of the game e-mails as and when they are generated, so that they can read and follow along with the story as it unfolds, much like reading a book.

Q: How do I become a Lurker?
A: If you wish to learn more about becoming a Lurker then click here.

Q: Can I submit a character for consideration?
A: No. The only way to join is in response to a new player request and these are only ever sent to the Lurkers. Any unsolicited new player or character e-mails will not be considered and will receive a 'see this FAQ' e-mail as a reply.

Q: How can I become a player?
A: Follow these steps:

  1. Actively follow the game by joining the Lurker mailing list.
  2. Wait for a new player request to be notified to the Lurkers.
  3. Send in your character submission for the available new player position, and the best of the entries will be chosen to play. You are always in competition with the other Lurkers to submit the most detailed and appropriate character for a vacancy.
