The Gangs of Mort

"Why am I a member of Krosstown? A friend of mine asked me that same question only a couple of weeks ago. I told him it's for my own protection, he said I was stupid. Next time I saw him they were picking bullets out of his body, shot by some 'Dark Night' Operative. If he were one of us the bastard that did that would have been toasted. Dark Night or otherwise."

Due to the nature of the civillian way of life on Mort many people (mostly Human) turn to numbers as a means of protecting themselves against the daily perils such as Carrien, Serial Killers and common thugs. Over time these collections of people have grown and assumed the status of Gangs.
There are three main gangs on Mort whose memberships number into the hundreds if not thousands of people. These gangs are in effect soft companies that are tolerated upon Mort, not because SLA can't get rid of them, but because they are useful to Operatives in their investigations. The average gang member knows if there's anyone new on his/her terf and if given the right incentive will usually inform on these strangers.

The three main Gangs are:

• Johannas.
  These gang members have no qualms about offing SLA Operatives. The gang has an organisation based loosely around a 'voodoo' cult. With drugs being easily available to it's members the gang has a large number of members. The Cafe Royal on 'The Strip' is where this gang is known to reside. Their official leader is a man by the name of Prince Jasper and very few people ever get to see this figure. There are many rumours surrounding him although to try and prove any would no doubt prove a dangerous task.
  

  Typical Quote - "You don't know what Daemons walks the night whilst you sleep Operative. I see it all and for a favour I can show them to you."

  Keistas.

  The Keistas offer information to those who need it and command a high price for it's customers. The bravado they show is not matched by their own confidence but by the Props that this gang employs. The Keistas can usually be found anywhere but only if you know who to ask for.

  Typical Quote - "You want some info huh? well I'm sure it can be arranged. Meet me at the Dolly Mixtures bar at 21:00 hours tonight and come alone. You're gonna need money too or we dont talk. 100U up front right?"

  Krosstown Traffic.

  The K.T. members are commonly known for the Keshangs they drive. The gang is the second largest on Mort loosing out only to the Johannas. Krosstown have mixed ideas about SLA and knowing who to talk to here is a big advantage. You can hope to find Krosstown members at the 'Travelling Man Cafe' on the 'Durel Strip'.

  Typical Quote - "So I blew him away at the last intersection! He crashed right into the support wall at over 130km/h. Dude, he was mashed!"

These gangs have had mixed dealings with SLA authorities but for the most part are left to their own devices. As long as they don't interfere with SLA in a negative way. They help keep the smaller gangs at bay and they are (relatively) easy to monitor if action does need to be taken.
Friction is rising at the moment thanks to the Skin Trade taking some of their members. The gangs are pushing back at all forms of Skin Trade and this brings them to the Beacon Street district, SLA's very own red light area. Only time will tell if SLA takes action against the gangs on this issue.
