Welcome to the Department of Education

The Department of Education is responsible for educating the massive amount of people throughout the World of Progress. State schools are generally inferior to the privately run schools but with so much hype placed for kids to join SLA as an Operative the state schools are well funded.
The kids that attend these schools however have a different attitude to educationprefering an on-the-street schooling to an in-your-book method. This leads to high levels of poorly educated civillians with the kids that actually turned up ] to school having the pick of positions within SLA.
The University system on Mort is centred around the two institutes, Meny and Orange Crush. With anyone who is able to attend one of these institutes being elegable for employment by SLA in their chosen field.

"The kids just mustn't want to learn. I stand here a fountain of knowledge that's going to help them throughout their lives here and they squander their free education to watch another episode of Captain Contract."
Mrs.J.Kalinowski. Teacher. 899SD

Almost all the schools on Mort dispence with the usual "do it for your own benefit" method of teaching and instead try to instill a sence of "if you don't have the knowledge then you're not gonna get employed as someone else will" attitude. Talent scouts make frequent visits to the upper class schools and sift through the would-be-operatives for the creame of the crop. The downtown schools have Talent Scouts looking for would be Frothers and Death Squad Ops.
Propaganda plays a big role in this environment and many of the benefits the kids see are emblazoned with the SLA label. they are taught to beleive in SLA and see them as the only way to succeed in life. Promotional videos are played and propaganda videos are the norm. Staple Primary School viewing is Captain Contract and most of the older kids watch it aswell.
If subversion can be rooted out at this level it will save resources at a later date.

Schooling system in SLA

Once a student has entered University a place on the SCL ladder usually follows.

"I can't see the point in the schools to be honest. The SLOPS don't need Killan or Maths they just point guns and ask where our drugs are."
Harry Kishter. Human. Age 13.
