.....Little is known about the early years of Richard Dare, but at the outbreak of World War II in Europe, he aided the British Royal Air Force in an experimental airplane. After the US's involvement in the conflict, he became attached to the OSS and worked for them under the code name "Aviator". During his time in England, he became friends with the villain known as The Shade, who aided him on several missions.
.....After the war, he continued to work for the US Intellegence community, but met and fell in love with a woman. Leaving her, not knowing at the time she was pregnant, she bore a son, Edward. Dare kept track of him over the years, and revealed his relationship to him just before Edward's second marriage. Dare was killed while aiding his grandson, the composite hero known as Firestorm against a killer alien known as the Zuggernaut.
.....Dare was a ruthless fighter, well trained in the arts of espionage. He was proficient in many weapons, but his most amazing one was his "aeroplane", composed of a nearly indestrucible transparent plastic, when airborne, he was nearly invisible. It is not know if the airship survived the War.
