Gorgon
Gorgon. Female monsters of the greek mythology. According to Esiodus the three gorgons were Medusa, Steno, Euriale, daughters of the sea gods Forco and Ceto.
The most famous of them, Medusa, had snakes as hair, and she could turn people staring at her into stone. She has been killed by Perseus who used his shield as a mirror, so that Medusa saw her own face and turned into stone.
