Musings on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time

I'd have posted this to alt.fan.robert-jordan (a fine newsgroup), but I haven't yet worked up the guts to post there:) So, I decided I'd put it up here, where it won't be seen by as many people:):)

The Dark One - I've seen the theory advanced that Shai'tan was a human who somehow figured out how to step outside the Pattern. My guess: when Tarmon Gaidon comes, Shai'tan gets destroyed. However, Padan Fain (aka Ordeith aka Mordeth) will be sealed up in his place, and, over the long, slow turning of the Wheel, become the Dark One by the time the Bore is broken...

Aran'gar and Osan'gar - Aginor and Balthamel, our old friends from The Eye of the World. Why? Excepting Ishamael (who's made as a hatter, and who could be Dashiva, like a couple of other people), Lanfear (trapped on the other side of a ter'angreal with Moiraine, my guess), and Asmodean (probably doing penance or being tortured by Shai'tan himself), Aginor and Balthamel are the only two dead Forsaken who have not been killed by balefire. Osan'gar also mentions that his face is 'not young, but younger' than the one he woke with. And, although Aran'gar/Halima can channel saidin, there is no indication that Osan'gar would be capable of channeling saidar. Osan'gar could be Dashiva.

Mazrim Taim - I've seen the idea that Taim is actually Demandred. This, I like, it also explains why we haven't seen much of him yet.

Asmodean - most likely killed by Shaidar Haran, or maybe Demandred/Taim. Could be resurrected into Dashiva. The second, almost glimpsed and maybe not there at all cour'souvra could be his.

Shaidar Haran - obviously created by the Dark One for an express purpose (and somehow linked to Shayol Ghul), Shaidar Haran would appear to have an agenda of his own.

Moridin - either a very highly ranked Darkfriend, another Forsaken, unknown even to the others of the Chosen, or maybe he is Shai'tan himself (The Lord of the Grave = Death/Moridin?) A definite wildcard, possibly (like Shaidar Haran) out to gain power for himself.

Logain - I'd expect to see Logain Ablar take over the Asha'man when/if Taim is deposed from the position of M'hael. Someone proposed that he may also take over for Rand when he 'dies' (as prophecies would point to).

The Daughter of the Nine Moons - Probably the Seanchan heiress, based on the fact that the Seanchan court is the Court of the Nine Moons.

Sammael - Dead? Yeah, right.

Semirhage - Like Demandred (and Osan'gar), one of the only Forsaken whose location has not yet been given away. Seanchan, perhaps?

Rand - By the time you add in various other characters, Rand contains allusions to Arthur Pendragon (evidenced by Thom's comment in The Shadow Rising that legends do odd things to stories). Rand also appears to have allusions to Christ (a spear-wound in his side, as well as wounds on each hand), and is certainly a Messianic figure.

Cadsuane Sedai - Another wildcard. Who knows?

Verin - Maybe she's Semirhage? Doubtful, but she doesn't seem to be Black Ajah, yet she's lied at least once, while the entire crew was in Shienar.
