Captain's Log
Season 5
Video 5.1
Night 8.5
Episode 95
Stardate 52081.2 • The crew of the USS Voyager is unsettled as a secluded
and conflicted Captain Janeway reflects on the decision she's made along the mission and the consequences those
judgements have had for them all. But soon the team of the USS Voyager encounters two never before seen alien species
- a nocturnal alien and its foe, the Malon - and knows that one will not survive without their intervention. Knowing
that coming to their aid makes a detour through dark, desolate space necessary, the captain alone must once again
determine her crew's fate.
This is a very good season opener. There is good characterisation
with a touch of realism, how's it like to be isolated for so long? However this is one of these episodes that would
have benefited from being longer. Janeway's breakdown, the crew's mutiny etc would all have been more real if given
some more time. This might also be a fan episode, i.e to really get involved you need to know these characters.
Besides these minor complaints I fully enjoyed this episode. Rating 8.5/10.

Drone 8.5
Episode 96
There's a sudden emergence of a dangerous new lifeform aboard the USS
Voyager - a Superborg - after The Doctor's 29th century mobile emitter technology mysteriously fuses with Seven
of Nine's Borg nanoprobes. Seven has to take a mentor role in making sure that this drone's allegiances are to
the crew. The 24th century Borg Collective become aware of the existence of the futuristic drone and come looking
for it, leaving it up to Janeway to protect Seven and the Doctor's "child" from the Collective.
Overall this is an episode that has most ingredients,
it's fun, sweet, sad and also squeeses in some action. It is also a good 7 of 9 show, that manages to develop 7's
character in a positive way. It's also a 7 show that actually manages to give some of the other characters something
meaningful to do. If this is how the 7 shows are going to be this season, well then fire away. Rating 8.5/10
