Captain's Log

Season 5
Video 5.2

Extreme Risk 8.5
Episode 97

Torres' crewmates are alarmed when she repeatedly engages in reckless activity including orbital skydiving. Meanwhile, after the USS Voyager directs its probe into a hazardous atmosphere, protecting it from a Malon freighter, Lt. Paris launches a newly constructed, all environment shuttlecraft, to retrieve it.

Yet another good episode. Looks like a great start for season 5. However it seems like all the females on Voyager are cracking up right now, hmmm. Great performance by Roxanne Dawson though and Robert Beltram got to play a strong and caring Chakotay for a change. Tom Paris was a dissapointment though, does he care whatsoever for B'Elanna? It didn't show much in this episode. The dialogue seems snappier this season, it was both witty and funny in the shuttle. Just one question, how could all 3 senior officers and 7 get to go on the same away mission? What if they had died? Tss, tsss. The shuttle was cool though. A final complaint-it's sad that the shows are so short, B'Elanna really recovered far too easily. But, that's weekly shows for you I guess, unless the writers decide to go for arcs. Rating 8.5/10.

Stardate 52136.4 • The USS Voyager discovers that Species 8472 has created a habitat simulation of Starfleet's San Francisco Yards, and are training their own to pose as humans to eventually invade Earth.

I loved the beginning of this show, It took me awhile to figure out what was going on. I loved the twist of species 8472 even if the earth invasion story seemed a bit old. I don't mind the Trek ideology of making all species likable in one way or the other but maybe they overdid it somewhat with species 8472. There was a long way between the formidable foe of Scorpion to the all too human version in this episode. I think the peaceful solution at the end came too quickly as well, I had expected more complications before the resolution, it could have been so much more. Yet another episode cut short. Rating 8/10.
