Chapter 2: The Batazede stay

Captian's personal log:
"Star date 262475, This is my last log entry as Captian of the star
ship Voyager. We have asked and been granted permission to stay on
Betatzede for an indefinite amount of time. Our doctors are concerned
about our children, and the fact that none of us has eaten alpha quadrant
food for almost twelve years. As to what and how our bodies will take the
alpha quadrants foods. They are most worried about our trying to eating
meat, and fowl. Dr. Tom Paris told me it was like a vegan vegetarian all
of a sudden eating meat. I'm not sure what I think about all this. Admiral
Paris is a S.O.B. No wonder Tom had so many problems. Chakotay was
so sweet he put the girls to bed last night. They are full of questions. I
have wondered how they will take to grass, fresh air, wide-open spaces.
I'm not even sure how I will feel about them myself. Sense it's been five
years sense we have been on a planet." Janeway's combadge beeped.
Janeway hit her combadge. "Yes?"
"Bridge here we have arrived at Betatzede."
"I'll will be right there. Janeway out." Janeway entered the bridge
"report."
"The Mc Carty is right behind us. We are being hailed by the
planet." Chakotay stated.
"On the screen Mr. Kim. This is Captian Kathryn Janeway. Of the
Federation star ship Voyager Thank you for having us."
" I'm Mr. Binn First minister to earth. We have a place set up for
your group. I have sent the coordinates to you."
"Mr. Kim have you got it" Janeway asked.
"Yes ma'am" Kim answered.
" Thank you Mr. Binn we will get back to you I'm going to take an
away team down to inspect it. But I don't see any trouble. Janeway out"
"Mr. Kim have ensign Wildmen, B'Elanna Paris, Mr. Condar and
Dr. Paris meet me in transporter room 2 now."
"Captian we are being hailed by the Mc Cartier." Kim looked up
as she answered in a disgusted. "Let them wait." Chakotay looked at
Tuvoc with a surprised look on his face. *he had never seen Kathryn act
that way.* Getting up he followed her into the turbo lift. " Tuvoc you have
the conn." He ordered. "Kate, talk to me, why are you acting this way
toward Starfleet?" Chakotay asked softly.
Kate looked at him with tears in her eyes. " I don't know how
much Admiral Paris had to do with this, so until I look things over. I'm
not going to give them this ship. He's not going to put my children in
some hell hole Chakotay! I didn't know how bad that man was. How did
Paris live through it?" Kathryn put her head in his neck.
"It left him scarred, the same as it did Seven. How did we survive
the delta quadrant?" Chakotay smiled, "we will be ok love." He kissed
her.
They were walking down the corroder. Entering the transporter
room. "Is everyone ready?" They all nodded. Stepping up on the
transporter.
Maria ran in "I want to go to."
Chakotay reached down and grabbed her. "No, you don't. You
stay here with me I have some thing for you to do for me."
"You do!?"
" Yes. Now wave at them, then we will go and do the special
project of course you can't tell anybody about it."
He took her into his office. "We are going to play a trick on the
guys on the other ship. I want you to put a lock on every door and one on
the computer that will take another code besides the one mama put on
them."
"You sure we should mama said if I messed with her stuff she would spank me."
Chakotay hugged her.
" I'm sorry, Maria, your right. Well I tell you what. You show me
how."
Maria smiled. "Is this going to make my grandfather look dumb?
He made my daddy sad." As her hands flew over the keys. "Now fix it so
I can activate it when I'm ready."
"Here it is." She handed him a data padd.
"Great! Now remember: tell no one. Now you run back to where
you are supposed to be."
"Yes sir," She smiled "Thank you Uncle Chakotay I hate him for
what he did to daddy." She turned as she finished and ran out of the door He hit his com badge.
"Chakotay to TJ."
"TJ here sir."
"I just sent Maria back from my office."
"Sorry sir. I better go meet her before she get into any more
trouble."
" Chakotay out." He sat back smiling. * Now all I have to do is
when we turn the ship over is to activate the new codes. I had better tell
Tom about the child's feelings for his father.* The beeping of his com
badge brought him back from his revery.
"Bridge to Chakotay"
"Chakotay here what is up LT?" Chakotay said with a smile in his
voice. Everyone on the bridge looked at each other.
"Sir the landing party is on its way to The conference room."
"On my way, Chakotay out." Chakotay got up and walked out of
his office. Feeling as though he had his world by he tail. Walking down
the corridor. He entered the conference room. "Well what did you find?"
Mr. Condar answered "It's a mess. An absolutely filthy place. He
was so up set. Chakotay actually felt sorry for him.
"It's all right this kind of what we expected. That's why we sent an away team down.
After 16 years on our own we don't just jump in without
looking things over first."
Chakotay saw Kathy just setting looking at her hands. "So how
long and how much would it take to clean it up or is it beyond that. If it is
how do we turn it down and not make the government here mad?" Kathryn looks at him." It's an
abandoned prison."
"It's no place for the children it was done on purpose. I'm sorry."
Tom said, "I think my father had something to do with it. Captian I
expected Some thing like this." *Sometimes I wish he hadn't had kids he
doesn't like them very much.* He wouldn't have done it if I wasn't part of
the crew." Tom said looking as if he wanted to cry.
Chakotay laughed. Everyone looked at him as though he had just
lost his mind.
Kathryn looked at him. "Are you all right?"
"Yes love I'm fine. Now can we find some place on the planet that
will work? Condar what do you think?"
Hitting the com panel on the table. "Get me The health minister."
Condar ordered. They sat in silence for a few minuets.
" Mr. Condor your call is through Minister T'Mar is on."
"Route it to the conference room ensign. Mr. T'Mar, this is
Condar Counselor to the Voyager crew. Who set up this business with the
prison? We have a hundred and thirty children they can't stay in that
place."
"Mr. Condar, I didn't know anything about there being any
children at all I was told that the federation had a bunch of shirkers. An
Admiral looked at the prison personally and said it would work fine. But
you are right, you can't put 130 children in there. Hang on. Wait I just
thought of something. Why don't you take them to your great great
grandmother's house? I don't know how long it would take to move into.
It might need cleaning. I offered it to the Admiral, but he said it was too
good for these people."
Mr. Condar looked at the parents. "Do you want to look at it?"I
Don't think it will be too bad My granddad was just here a couple of
moths ago.
Kathryn stood "Yes we can if you think your grandfather won't
mind if we use it."
"He won't mind, and when he hears what the admiral did he will a
probability wish to string him up."
Kathryn looked at Chakotay. *I think we just met someone very
big.* "If I might ask Mr. Condar Who is your grandfather?"
He smiled. "The president of the Federation. He is the grandson of
Luxanna Troy." Everyone looked at each other with shock on their faces.
Shall we go down and have a look? Chakotay hit his com. badge "Chakotay to
TJ."
"TJ here sir."
"Have you got Maria?"
"Yes sir is mom back?"
B'Elanna hit her com badge "TJ this is mom what's up?"
"Well I'm not sure how to correct Maria she says she was helping
Uncle Chakotay."
"She did." Chakotay out. " I will explain it later. After you get
back from the planet."
They went to transporter room two. "I‘m Curious" Kathryn looked
at Chakotay. "What have you been up to?"
"I will explain later." *After, I figure out what I'm going to tell
you.*
The house and grounds were perfect for their use. "This is
perfect for us. How much will we need to pay for its use?"
"I don't think grandpa will accept any things. I will send him a
message as soon as we get back to the ship." Condar spoke. "Are
you ready to go back?"
"Yes we will have to send down a crew to pick up the things the
children might break." Kathryn said.
They got back. As Kathryn walked through the bridge "Chakotay
come to my ready room."
Chakotay stood up. *Hating to get up and go in the office. He
knew Kathy was going to rip him apart. Oh well I might as well face the
music.* He walked up to the door.
The door chime beeped Kathryn said "come in. All right
Chaskotay what have you done?"
"Well Nothing to worry about she wanted to go with you, and I
told her. She could help me instead. That was all. Well how soon do we
move?"
"Not so fast what did you have her do?" Janeway asked.
Chakotay had that twinkle of mischief in his eyes. "What you
don't know you can't be held responsible for. Now go and start packing."
Chakotay laughed. "Just remember I love you when they take me away."
Kathryn looked confused. Her com badge chirps. Pushing it she
said Janeway here.
"Paris here. The holodoc wants to go with us."
"So call your wife. She can fix you up something." Janeway stated.
"She already has. I just needed your permission to take him. I'm
packing up the sickbay now." Paris out.
*Paris was doing what! Good grief just because one admiral was
acting like an idiot didn't mean all of Starfleet was nuts.* She hit her com
badge. "I want to make a ship wide announcement Ladies and gentlemen
you are to take only what belongs to you." They all looked at each other
and smiled.
Kathryn went to her quarters. *well it was time for her to move on.
She had known she wouldn't stay on this ship forever, but Gods after 15
years she was going to miss it.* She started packing their things.
Computer where are the girls? Holodeck two . Who is with them?
Commander Chakotay.
"Janeway to Chakotay."
"Chakotay here Captian."
"Why are you and the girls in a holodeck?" Kate asked.
"I have about ten other men with me we have all the children here
in the park. While the rest of you do the packing. We thought it would
serve two purposes, getting them out from under foot, and expose them to
large spaces. Mr. Paris made the park look like the Betatzede landscape."
Chakotay smiled.
"Who is that screaming?" Kathy asked worried
"That my love is Couma. I think we got a problem she is terrified
of the grass. Chakotay answered.
"Well then bring her back here. Kathryn demanded.
"Tom doesn't want to give in to her. When I asked he said to let
her scream for an hour. Then get her out of here."
"Janeway to Dr. Paris."
"Dr. Paris here, What is up Captian?" Paris said flippantly.
"I just talked to Chakotay why would you tell him to let a child
scream for and an hour? Any child?"
"Well I also told him to get her out after that. Sometimes you have
given them sometime. Until they can figure out that there isn't anything
to get up set about." He has about five more minuets. When they got
there, they were all crying except the oldest ones and they weren't happy
to be there When they started to play, and run."
"I see. Why did you answer yes Captian? Janeway asked.
"Because you said Janeway to Dr. Paris. That mean you are in your
Captian mode." Paris out.
Chakotay walked in a short time later, with Couma in his arms
sound asleep. He set on the couch just holding her. "How are you coming
with the packing?"
"Just fine with the usual things like remembering the time this
happened and that happened."
"We only spent the last 16 years of our lives here." Chakotay
smiled as he spoke.
" Tom just told me that I have modes. Everyone knows which by
the mode of how I call them on the com channel. I guess If I say Janeway
I'm being Captian. I wonder what the rest mean?
"Kathryn means serious but not work related That's the one you
use with me when I'm in private trouble. It goes something like Kathryn
to Chakotay. I know you are being my wife and not my Captian.
If you call Kate to someone, it is usually of a maternal or friendly nature.
As in Kate to Bel means you need a mom's or a friend's point of view."
Kate looked at him. If I used Kathy?"
"You don't, I do that means I want to go to bed with you. You
only tolerate it from me." Chakotay answered. How much longer until we
leave?"
Kate looked at the clock about two hours. I guess I had better go
and pack up my office."
"They are all done. I had an ensign help me pack up both offices."
"Where is my stuff from the office?" Chakotay asked.
Kathryn held up a data padd. "Is this what you are looking for?"
Janeway asked.
*Chakotay knew that look; she knew what he had done. So he
just shook his head.* She threw it at him. "Just don't let me see you do it.
You get to tell B'Elanna and Tom what you encouraged, their three-year-old to do. Do you
understand?"
"Yes Captian." Chakotay said respectfully.
Planet side
Five hours Later on the planet everyone had their room
assignments and everything was in order.
Mc Carty to Janeway
"Janeway here Captian. What can I do for you?"
"The computer will not let us out of the transporter room. We
can't get the admiral back. The ship is going to warp!"
"Then if I was you I would go after it. Transport some food to him
because the replacators don't work. Janeway out."
"Tom and B'Elanna come to the office and bring Maria with
you."
Tom looked at B'Elanna, She shrugged. "Maria come here They
took the child and went to the office.
Chakotay smiled at Maria. "Come here and set on my lap we have
to face the music, and tell what we did."
"But mama will spank me. I told you she said she would.
"That's ok love." He hugged her. "If she wants to spank someone,
she can spank me ok?" Maria giggled. "I told you to do it didn't I?"
She shook her head.
"Ok now what did you do exactly."
" I changed the codes like you told me." She giggled. Then looked
to see how her mother was taking all this. "Then I told the computer that
some bad people was coming to tear it apart and to protect its self and not
let anyone touch it unless it was my mom and she would yelling my name
like she was mad at me. Oh I told the computer to turn everything they
sent him to gagh. Not people just tools and food. Now can I go play with
Mr. Condar he said he had a special place I could play with a computer
that I couldn't hurt anything or anyone else."
B'Elanna smiled. "Come here little one." Maria turned and seen
her mother was not mad, but she was smiling, so she jumped down and
ran to her. "I'm sorry mama but he asked how he could do it, and I hate
that man that said bad things about all of us. They thought I couldn't hear.
I herd him tell the doctor that my dad wasn't worth the powder to blow
him up. I didn't understand what that meant, but the doctor didn't like it
either." I heard him tell the man with him that he was going to take the
ship back personally, so he's the only one the computer will let on board.
I'm sorry daddy. I know he's your daddy but . . . "
B'Elanna Said. "Ok you go find Mr. Condar." The four adults just
looked at each other.
Chakotay said. "Well don't all of you jump at once, but I would
like to get this over with." Instead of jumping on him. They started to
laugh until there were tears rolling down their cheeks. By the way you
might want to have Condar talk to her. She really hates your father and
that's not good for a three year old.
"I wonder if the computer will accept my yell over the com?"
B'Elanna wondered out loud. We could try. There was a knock on the
door "come in. Yes Mr. Condar?" The Captian asked.
"It's time for the children's first out side experience. I've asked
the parents to stay close to their children, after what happened on the
holodeck. I would like you to just hold Coumpa, and let her get
acquainted with being there. I have never seen a child so petrified of
something as she is of the grass."
"Fine Janeway said. We will be right there. Janeway walked over
to the desk." Janeway to Voyager Computer."
Voyager to Captian Janeway. "B'Elanna it's all yours give it your
best try."
"Computer this is B'Elanna Torris - Paris, MARIA. Torris to the
Mc Carty try doing something now."
"We are getting nothing. We can send the admiral things, but when
it appears there it's all gahg. That's what the computer identifies it as
whatever that is?"
"It is a Klingon food. Well as soon as I get my children settled, I
will come and try to straiten the computer out. See you at the yard."
"Well shall we go out and see what kinds of problems. We are
going to have with our children?" They walk into the living room
Everyone else is already there. Condar picked up Maria and started for the
doors. She stiffened she didn't like this at all. Daddy she screamed. Tom
walks over to her. "It's all right I'm right here. See mama is right over
there."
Tuvoc walked over. "Come here Maria." Taking her. " Listen to
me children all of you. Have I ever lied to any of you?" At their nods.
"You will not have to stay long, but you must go outdoors every day for 10 minuets.
There is nothing to be alarmed at you will stand there and smell things. If
you have a question ask, someone will be able to tell you the answers"
This had been going on for the last six months and little by little
the children got better able to handle the outdoors. All but Couma. Every
time she comes in contact with the ground she would stiffen and pass out.
as if she was having a reaction to the ground. She was all most catatonic.
Tom and the EMH couldn't figure out what was going on.
As they were working with the children they had visitors
Tom had contacted the Bolian Embassy. They wanted TJ to go to their
home world. Tom and B'Elanna had been ready to fight to keep him. The boy showed all of
them a letter he had found among his
parents papers, after he showed it to the representatives of his parent's
government. They gave the boy the language classes he wanted along with
culture classes.
The letter simply asked that he be trained in the Bolian culture and
language. That Tom and B'Elanna would always love him, they loved us.
When he reached the age of maturity then he could go to the home world.
If they got back before their death maybe Tom and B'Elanna would bring
him for a visit. Tom's sisters with their families came to see Tom and his
family.
Harry's mom and dad were surprised by his marriage to seven they had a
problem with her directness. But they loved the children. While they were
there Seven walked into the office. "Kathryn, what am I going to do? I
just hurt Harry's mother's feeling again."
"What does Harry say? Kathryn asked.
"That is part of the problem he said don't worry it will be all right.
Some of it is cultural. I'm just don't understand what their ancestors have
to do with any thing. I don't like up setting them. They say cruel things to
Me that makes Harry cry. When he thinks no one is around."
Kathryn walked over to her putting her arm around her. "I'm not
sure what to tell you Seven. Maybe if I speak to them. They will realize
they are hurting the one person they love the most. Send therm down."
The door chimed .Come in."The Captian invited. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Kim. Please have
a seat."
"We know that that Seven person was just here are you going to
send us away?"
"No I was hoping we could talk about the problem though. You
seem to think saying nasty things to Seven is okay, but every time you do
all you do is to hurt Harry.
"That's what that thing says. I don't believe they are even
married."
"That I can say for sure, because I preformed the marriage myself.
Even though you may not like her she is his wife."
"Then you are taking her side?" Mr Kim stated.
"No, I'm talking for the children and Harry. They are the ones that
are getting hurt not you and Seven. Maybe if you sat down with seven and
told her about our beliefs. Remember she was taken by the borge when
she was a child. She didn't chose to be what she is."
They only had a small amount of trouble with the food. They soon
found they couldn't handle meats, but the vegetables were fine. Tom had
been looking forward to a nice thick juicy porterhouse steak, but after his
first bite he ran from the table for the nearest bathroom. The infants were
given regular milk. Three got sick, three tolerated it, but were hungry right
away. The older children A year and older found it unmanageable they got
sick and couldn't eat any thing for a couple of days. Tom and the EMH
had a problem keeping up with everybody. The adults were just as bad as
they tried their favorite foods. Just to find they couldn't tolerate them.
The letters
There were people who started to look at Kathryn as if she was to blame
for something, and she didn't know what. They wouldn't talk to her all of
a sudden.
Chakotay and Kathryn were in their room. When Tom knocked at
the door. Chakotay opened the door. "What can I do for you fellows?".
We need to talk to both of you privately. We can't find anything medically
wrong with Couma. Now Tuvoc and I have an idea We thought Tuvoc
could do a mind meld with her and find something that isn't showing up
on the medical scans." Tom spoke slow and even as if he was afraid how she would react to it.
"That would be fine when would you like to try?"
"How about first thing in the morning." Tuvoc answered. "I would
like her well rested for this."
In the morning Tuvoc met them in the living room. Now Couma
I'm going to do a mind meld, and see if we can figure out why you pass
out every time you go out side. Do you know what a mind meld is?
"Yes M'ike does it all the time." Maria answered.
Is it ok with you if you and I do so?" She nodded her head. "Can
daddy set next to me?"
"Sure in fact you can set on his lap if you will feel more
comfortable. My mind to your mind, your mind to my mind. You are safe
in the house. There is nothing that can hurt you. I won't let it." He went
through her mind until he found the problem. You no longer have to worry
about that, there is No way you can sink into the ground." Q popped in.
Janeway looked at him. "Are you responsible for this?"
"No you remember the other Q on the planet When you were held by my
colleague. He did this to her. I found him laughing about it. The
Continuum has striped him of his power, and made him stay on that world
by himself. He's there for the next two hundred years. Q asked where is
the other one he said there was two?"
"I'll go get her." Kate stated. When they were together again, Q set about
fixing what the other man had done. Soon the girls were up and running
around the room and even going out side to play. "Thank you Q. I am so
pleased you could come and fix them they are my pride and joy." Kathryn
smiled. As she kissed his cheek. Q actually turned red.
Janeway was setting in the dinning room waiting for the others.
*The weekly staff meeting was about to start. It was to deal mostly with
the children. Starfleet wasn't too happy about the way things turned out.
They figured it would take maybe two to six months to get everyone back
in shape.. She and Chakotay have been discussing if she should resign and
stay here with the girls. It had been a while since they had had the time to
talk so? She could go back to science duty. But God she loved being a
Captian. Oh! Gods she wished she knew what to do.*
Tom Paris walked in. "Hi Captian, is something wrong?"
"No, yes Oh I don't know I may have to resign."
Tom smiled. "You could ask for a science ship where you can
take them with you."
The Captian said. "I will run that by Chakotay and see what he has
to say about it."
"Better still have Chakotay Captian and you as commander in
charge of all science projects." Tom said. "That way we redesigned
Voyager. I have heard they don't want to change it? So we could ask for it.
You could ask for your senior staff to go with you. You would need a
chief engineer. A doctor and such." Paris said, looking at the Captian.
"Run it by them see what they think. That way you could take the kids
down to a planet every few weeks.
Others were walking in. "Hello everyone This week meeting is
about what we do next. And how we are to handle the situation with our
children. As you can see there are more people here then just the senior
staff. We are all parents at this meeting. The meeting is open to ideas on
how to deal with our problems."
Tom stood up. "Well I really don't want to stay with Starfleet, but
that's the option I was given either get on a new ship or resign. As has
B'Elanna." Several other people shook their heads. The Captian asked.
Please raise your hands if you've received such a notice."
Everyone raised their hands even Chakotay. "How many feel, the
way Tom does. They all raised their hands. "Well if they aren't going to
change our ship I thought I might ask for it to be used as a science ship."
Kate finished her talk and opening it to the floor for discussion.
"If Mr. Condar would come with us. Then he could continue to
work with the kids. I think all the adults are back to normal." Tom stated,
Medically speaking
Mr. Condar asked. "Why would they give out such notices?"
"They are up set because some of us didn't want to teach at the
academy." Janeway stated.
"I see stepped on some toes did you." Condar smiled "I suggest
that you discuss it with your families. Bare in mind that these children
need love more then anything else. Some of the older children might want to stay with relatives
just as they normally would, and go to school. Some
are about three months from entering Starfleet Academy."
One of the mothers raised her hand. "After the way Starfleet has
treaded me sense we got back I'm not sure I want them in Starfleet." She
stated. "I wouldn't be staying, but I have no other place that I can get
work. I tried. They all say I'm too old or behind the time."
Captian raised her hand "Now I'm afraid I don't understand." The
officer stood up and handed her a letter. The Captian read the letter out
loud. "How many of you got this letter." Everybody raised their hands
even Chakotay.
"Before you go ballistic it came when Phoebe was so sick you
didn't need to see it. Then I forgot about it." Chakotay smiled.
Tuvoc stood. "I had herd about the letter when M'ike and TJ
brought it to my apartment they had read it because it had up set
B'Elanna so much. They wanted to know what was wrong with them that
they needed to be put away. I reassured them that you wouldn't be putting
them in any sanatorium. I thought you might feel this way about it so I
contacted my government and asked if they could get Starfleet to turn
over Voyager to them instead. Starfleet didn't want to refit it. They turned
it over to them last week. The government is turning it into a medical
ship for emergencies. If we take the job. We would be sent to a planet that
has a medical problem we investigate to find out what caused it. I heard
from the government just before the meeting." They want those who are
resigning to come to man it. As we already know the ship. they want our
input on how we want it laid out. Think it over and get back with the
Captian as soon as possible." Tuvoc sat. "Tuvoc do we have to resign from
Starfleet?"Janeway asked.
"Yes you would be working for the Vulcan government." Tuvoc
Stated.
The Captian dismissed everyone. "Mr. Tuvoc how long did they
give you? Before they give it to someone else?"
"Ten standard days." He answered.
"You should have told them." The Captian stated
"No ma'am they have enough people pushing them this way and
that. I told the government what was going on and they agreed with me rushing them was not the
way to go. The ten days covers you lt.
commander Toriis and Dr. Paris. The rest have a couple of months."
Tuvoc answered.
Well I had better get to the room Chakotay probably is wondering
how mad I'm." Kathryn laughed.
"I will see you tomorrow. Tuvoc said.
"By the way how is your family adjusting to being here?" Kathryn
asked.
"They are doing well. I have already sent in my resignation
effective as of the end of the month. I will go with you if you take the job,
but if you don't I will go home and do something else. Tovoc stated
blandly.
Kathryn walked into the room. "Where are the girls?"
Chakotay looked at her. "I took them to the Paris'. I wasn't sure
how mad you would be, and with the every thing they have been through I
didn't think they needed to see us fight they know about the letter and are
scared enough as it is." Kathryn looked as if she was going to cry. Come
here love he rapt his arms around her. "I love you Kathy and whatever you
decide will be all right by me." Kissing her gently.
"Oh Chakotay Tuvoc just told me he resigned his time is up at the
end of the month."
"That doesn't surprise me. I was given these as I was coming back
from the Paris', and asked to give them to you." He handed her a stack of
papers.
"how many are there?" Chakotay shrugged "They were
given to me three and four at a time." The door beeped There were some
of the rest of the crew standing there. They handed Kathryn their papers. "We're sorry Captian
We don't want to work for someone who
tells us to put our kids in a nut house." The spokesman said "By the way
this is nothing to do with you. We love you very much and if you decided
to stay in Starfleet please don't hold this against us. Write to let us know
what, and how you and yours are doing."
"Thank you I will." Kathryn said. Tuvoc and Tom were at the back
of the pack. As the others left, they walked up. "I told Starfleet that if they
interfered with our children there would be a mass resignation." Kate Stated looking at the floor.
Chakotay walked over come in a gentlemen. Everyone walked
over to the couch. "Lets have a seat. Kate and I have not had a chance to
talk about this. So can you give us a day or two."
"Chakotay I want to see that letter now." Kathryn whispered
Chakotay got up and went over to the desk; opening a desk drawer took
out the letter.
"Here it is love, he handed it to her." Chakotay stood behind her
with his hands on her shoulder "Its ok love take it easy. Read it all then
think about it from Starfleet's angle."
"Chakotay stop pushing."
"Sorry love." He grinned at the other two.
"You said you told someone that if Starfleet pushed it we would
resign." Tuvoc asked.
"Sorry Tom but it was your father." Kathryn answered.
"That's ok I know he's an idiot." Tom smiled "He has the best son
that anyone could want, but he couldn't appreciate what he had. That
would explain the fact that he signed those letters. Maybe you should
contact Starfleet to make sure they actually wanted these sent out.
Because the letters are signed by him. You should hold on to those letter
resignations until you checked it out. That's why Tuvoc and I came over.
"I have a friend in Admiral Nellls office. I called him. He looking
into it." Tuvoc stated. "They had been written and sent by the admiral,
with Starfleet's ok." Kathy looked at Chakotay. "What do I do now?" She
looked as though she might cry.
"Come on Tuvoc why don't we give the Captian sometime to
breathe." Tom said. The two men got up and left.
"Kathy come to papa" Chakotay said putting his arms around her
while she sobbed. "You might as well know the rest I already sent my
resignation in. It will be final as of the end of the month."
"Why didn't you talk to me about it?"
"You didn't need the pressure remember this is was when we first got the letter."
She looked at him "Why did you do it?"
"For two reasons: You have always been in Starfleet a long time. I
haven't. You had more to lose if you quit. I figured I could take the
children, and either stay here, or on a space station somewhere. Where I
could find work. Soon she walked over to the desk and made out the
letter of resignation.
"Chakotay I don't care if there is a mistake or not. I've had it with
their dumb attitude. We come back after being lost for 16 years. Instead of
treating us like heros or even human beings they are treating us like bugs!
NOT HUMAN BEINGS BUT BUGS!!!
All the resignations were accepted.
