By: Jo Monroe Parts: 3 of 3 Rating: pg Chapter Three Kathryn's personal log star date 2476.2 Well this is my first log as Kathryn Janeway ex Captian. I was sorry to have to resign as Captian, but now the rest of the old Voyager crew wants me as their leader. I am to be go between with the Vulcan government. Which brings me to the letter I keep putting it off. By that, I mean that This entry should have waited until after the letter was written, but I'm trying to figure out what to say, and how to say it. Chakotay has been a prince about it all. He keeps trying to help me. He just took the girls on a picnic so they won't be here to distract me. I'm not sure that was a good idea, one reason we left Starfleet was Our children. I'm not blaming the children for leaving Starfleet. It was the way they wanted to treat us like bugs instead of human beings. Well enough of this I should get to the letter. End log entry Janeway out. Mr. T'pal Head of the Vulcan government Vulcan home world Dear Sir; I'm Kathryn Janeway, representative of the people Who made up the crew of the Starship Voyager. We have some question: 1. Who will be paying our checks? We don't want to have anything to do with Starfleet. 2. Will we be able to, take our families with us? Some of us don't have families to send our children to, so when they get old enough for collage. Can they stay on Vulcan or should we consider finding some place other then that? 3. Who says how we will be assigned us our jobs? This is what I'm talking about people like. Dr. Paris He is a medical doctor, but he can fly a ship through the eye of a needle. Like him all of our people have, because of necessary, been cross trained. Some are trained in two or more jobs. Even our ten and twelve-year-old have been trained to do certain entry level jobs. I understand these questions might seem both non essential, and maybe none of our business. We have to know; We have spent 16 years on our own and learned to look before we leap into anything. When we hear from you, we will then make up our minds, and let you know right away because we want to report on the first of the month. We have all resigned and those will be effective at the first of the month. It is two weeks later. Kate was setting in her office. She was worried because she hadn't heard from the head of the government. Kate hoped that she hadn't sounded to demanding in the letter. The door chimed. "Come in." Kathryn said. The door opened. Mr. Tuvoc walked in with another man. "Captian Captian Janeway this is Mr. T'pal, he is the head of theVulcan government." Mr. Tuvoc introduced them. "Ms Janeway I am so happy to meet you I hope to be able to help your people understand. . . ." The door banged open and Maria ran in. "Aunt Katn, Aunt Katn I did it, I did it." She screamed jumping up and down happily. Mr. Tuvoc looked at her. "MARIA!" he said she stopped dead in her tracts. "Sorry Grandpa Tuvoc," She said looking at thefloor. "Now what have you done?" Kathryn asked. "I finished the first project Mr. Condar gave me. I had to get some people out of a cave before they died. I just hope they do." Maria whispered. "That's great, now you go find your mother." Kathryn said. "Yes Ma'am," she hugged Kate. She turned to leave and noticed the other man. " I'm sorry Aunt Katn.I didn't mean to interrupt our meeting." "As I said. Go find your mom." Kathryn reminded her. "Maria's what is you doing in Aunt Kathryn's office?" Tom asked in a stern voice. "Come with me now." "Who is this?" T'pal asked. "This is Dr. Tom Paris. He is one of our medical doctors, and Maria's father." Kate smiled. "Tom this is Mr. T'pal, he is the head of the Vulcan government." Tom held up his hand and gave the traditional Volcan greeting. T'pal nodded. T'pal said. "Come to me little one. How old are you?" "My name is Maria, and I'm three. I'm really smart sir. Would you like to be my other grandpa? My regular grandpas do not want any part of us, so I keep looking for a grandpa that's all I really want, but if you don't . . . ?" She shrugged her shoulders. "I will just have to keep looking?" Maria asked taking a deep breath. "That was quite a speech. May I think over whether I want to be your grandpa? ? Now may I talk to your papa?" "Sure just tell daddy or Aunt Katn. They will tell me." Maria bowed her head. "Live long and Prosper sir." She left the room. "Dr. Paris how come a child of three is working on how to save people from a cave?" T'pal asked. Tom smiled. "It was only a simulation. They did a test on her; she has a Johnson reading of three hundred. In fact we are finding that all our children have higher rating then average." We started an investigation, to see why. We wondered if it was the delta quadrant food they ate. "That sounds interesting. Now Captian. When would be a good time for me to meet with your people, and may I see my room? Dr. Paris I will give your daughter her reply then." "Certainly sir, the best time would be at thirteen hundred, in the dinning room. I'll pass the word around. Tuvoc will you take Mr. T'pal to his room" "Yes ma'am." "Janeway to all adults. We will be meeting at thirteen hundred in the dinning room. Mr. T'pal the head of the Vulcan government will be there to answer any questions. Janeway out." "Tom can you walk with us?" At Toms nod." I thought I should tell you before I announce it at the meeting. Your father was too blamed for the letters not Starfleet." Tom walked into his room. Where he dropped into a chair. Looking as if he was about to cry. B'Elanna asked. "What is wrong?" Tom just set there staring. B'Elanna picked him up by his shirt. "Now talk to me, helm boy."She demanded. Maria walked into the room. Putting her hands on her hips and smiled. "Mama put daddy downbefore you break him you know the doctor says you just had to stop doing that." "Your right little one as she put him down." She grabbed for the girl and started to tickled her. "Now we have to get daddy to tell us what bothering him." Watching them he began to laugh until he cried. "B'Elanna what am I going to do? Tuvoc just told me that the letters were all my fathers' idea. Starfleet had nothing to do with it. I thought it was all over that I had people who at least liked me if not loved me." At thirteen hundred they all met in the dinning room. "Please have a seat, so we can get started. I hope to get this over before the babies wake up. Now this gentleman is Mr. T'pal, He is the head of the Vulcan government. He is hoping that he can answer all our questions." Kate smiled. "Mr. T'pal." She nodded and sat. "I had Mr. Tovoc run off the questions Ms. Janeway sent in her letter to me. We will start with them and if you think of more, feel free to ask. We will start with those. 1. Who will be paying for your work? My government. It has been arranged, so that if anything should happen to me you still will have your jobs. 2.Yes as will the others that will travel with you. 3. As for the education of your children. That is up to you. They will Of course be welcome on Vulcan if they desire to stay." 4. You will be assigned as to your abilities, but the older children will be back in school. As I understand, Dr. Paris can be an good Dr. Or he can fly a ship through an eye of a needle. Tom turned red. Are there any other questions?" "Now Mr. Tuvoc has an announcement." Tuvoc stood up. "I have told Dr. Paris, so he could be prepared for what's to come. His father Admiral Paris was alone in the letters until they got our resignations they knew nothing about it. They don't blame us for our actions, but have offered you back your jobs if you want them back." Tuvoc sat after he spoke. Everyone was quiet for along time. Kathryn got up. "Well people what questions do you have for Mr. T'pal, and Mr. Tuvoc?" They answered all the questions. "Well if that's all there is." T'pal said. I will leave and let you talk it over among yourselves. By the way the plans you sent are being put together as we speak." He turned and walked to the door. "By the way Dr. Paris tell Maria yes." Then he left the room. Sticking his head in the door. "Mrs. Paris will you come to my room after you get through here. Youcan bring the doctor if you wish?" Tom and B'Elanna looked at each other, then at Tuvoc. He shrugged he didn't know what was going on. "Well folks we have a lot of thinking to do any questions?" Kate asked. Tom raised his hand."I don't have a question. Just a statement I'm sorry my father pulled this on you." Tom sat looking at his hands. *B'Elanna was glad, because she would not want him to see the looks he got they didn't blame him at all they felt sorry for him, and a little hurt that he thought he must apologize. For his father. * "I have a question. Does this mean you won't give me a lecture the next time I take Timmy to the holodeck and he gets hurt?". Simmson asked everyone laughed. They set there talking for another hour. "Kathryn you tell Mr. T'pal we will be there on the first of the month. Or sooner if they need us to help with refit. Someone else raised her hand stating "I for one would like some in put on our quarters, and people that they hire for our children's care while the rest of us are working." They broke up each going to their room. Except for the Praises They went to T'pal's room knocking when bade to enter they found their children on the floor. They were laughing so hard, and rolling around. They caught sight of their parents. They pulled themselves together. Hi, grandpas invited us over here because he wanted to talk to us "I hope that was ok?" TJ asked as he jump to his feet. Tom put his hand on the boy's shoulder. "Yes son it was fine." "Well sir, what do you think of our gang?" Tom asked. "They are great. Do you know how the folks think about taking the job?" "Yes you will be formally informed. We have decided to take it." Tom answered "TJ it's time for these guys to get ready for supper."B'Elanna said."Get now as they looked like they would argue with her." "Are we going to visit grandpa T'pal at his house?" Maria asked. "I hope you will, but I'm going to put you in a house all of your own." T'pal said. When Maria looked as if she would cry. "I forgot how literally that children take things. "Your parents would be there with you." T'pal smiled at her. Condar raped on the door "come in," The older man said. Just as the children ready to leave. "Yes sir, you wanted to see me?" Condar asked. "Yes I was wondering what you had in mind if you were coming with the children, or if we needed to find someone else to do your job?" T'pal asked. "Well sir I asked about that, and was given permission by my government to go with them. They cleared it through my grandfather." Condar answered. "If I might ask who is your grandfather?" T'pal asked. "My grandfather is the president of the federation." Condar spoke lightly. T'pal was as surprised as they had been when they heard. There was another knock on the door. "Come in." Tuvoc walked in. He held the padd toward the older man. "They have accepted they want to leave as soon as we can make arrangements on the home world for them. They want to help with the refit, and the setting up of their own quarters. I'm not sure why that is important, but it seems to be for them." Tuvoc stated T'pal looked at him. "It is going to be their home for the next twenty or so years. Why shouldn't they want too especially the women? Well get to work and get them to our world so they can get started. "Yes sir. Anything else." Tuvoc asked. "No, I don't think so. Now for the two of you. I noticed that you have a very diverse group of children. Two are ours the rest are adopted. TJ is a bolin, his folks were killed in an away mission. T'mar and Ann are half human and half Vulcan the same thing happened to them. Greg and Maria are ours the hard way. The sixth is human one of the girls got pregnant and didn't want him. "Which girl was that?" T'pal asked "One of the Delany girls, but she was killed in an attack." B'Elanna answered "I see well it is time for dinner and I have to change now go see to your family they are good." The next day T'pal asks someone " Can you find out where Maria is?" T'pal asked. "Yes sir, she is in the playroom her parents make sure that she spends at least 2 hours a day playing like a three - years - old should." he answered. "Where will I find the playroom?" T'pal asked. "This way sir. Humphrey lead the way to the playroom. He found the most beautiful woman there with the children." "Humphrey who is that young woman? I wonder if she would have dinner with me. A quite dinner alone?" T'pal looked at him questionably. "She is one of the Delany sisters they have the reputation of never saying no." Humphrey, stated, left shaking his head. Megan Delany looked up from the picture she was supervising. "Yes sir may I help you?" Meg asked. Maria laughed. "He is my grandfather jumping up running to T'pal and gave him a hug. "May I join you?" He asked as she pulled Maria off him. "The name is T'pal head of the Vulcan government "Yes sir. Feel free to look around. Or just sit and watch." Meg smiled. "Now class shall we finish this picture for your moms and dads." T'pal just set there watching the girl. *He was thinking. He would have to find a way of keeping her on Vulcan with him. "Miss Delany what did you do on Voyager before they had children?" "I worked in security for Tuvoc. He is a nice man, but hard to get to know I know. Part of it is his Vulcan heritage." Kathryn was in her office. *She wished she knew what was going on. She hadn't heard from T'pal or Tuvoc. * There was a knock at her door. "Come in." Kathryn said. Tuvoc walked in, "Well T'pal has ordered me to get things moving to get the crew to Vulcan." Tuvoc told her. "He even understood your wanting to have a say in things." I had to go back and ask my wife what that was all about." He was looking perplexed. "Things must have changed a lot on Vulcan or else I'm slipping." Kathryn smiled. "Well there is the fact that you have been gone a long time, and if you had been with your wife. All that time you would have watched her turn your house into what she wanted and what made you both comfortable. So what is on the agenda for us?" She asked. "Well I have arranged for a team to go and checkout some places. The minister of housing thought might be ok for our use. It is an apartment building. Where we would have separate quarters " Tuvoc told her. "That sounds great! Who have you picked?" Kathryn asked "Well, Chakotay said I should take you Lieutenant Torris and ensign Lamont to represent the unmarried crew. If we see it and everything is ok. Then we should send for the rest of them." Tuvoc looked at her with that raised eyebrow. "Fine when do we leave?" Kathryn asked "As soon as you tell them and get some clothes packed." Tuvoc answered. Two hours later they were ready to leave. Mr. T'pal and Meg Delany were all ready on board the ship when they beamed aboard. T'pal turned to the young man who ran the transporter. "You can tell the bridge that everyone is here and he may leave at his conveyance." "Yes sir." "Ensign Delany I don't remember you being on my roster." Janeway said. "She isn't, but Chakotay knows she is here, as my guest." T'pal answered. "Yes sir." Janeway smiled.* I hope she knows what she is getting into.* The trip took all of two days. They reached the planet. It took them to days to look over the places that they had been offered. Kathryn and the others were sitting on the porch of Tuvoc's home. "Now ladies what do you think of all the places we have seen?" They all started to talk at once."Well, the apartment building while close to the ship yard." "Maybe the easiest way to do this is to make a list of the places, then what we need, and match them up. Kathryn told them. "Well I know there are a couple of them I think we can leave off the list the ones on the other side of the planet. Because we would only get home once a week to be with the children." Wildman looked around to the others for agreement. They all shook their heads. "Your right so that leaves us with three places left. Lamont you were saying about the apartment building." Kate asked "While it is close to the yard, it doesn't have any place for the kids to play. I know I'm supposed to be here for the unmarried people, but I don't think the other unmarried would want them living where they have no place to play." B'Elanna raised her hand, "Well when I was talking to Tuvoc's daughter. I asked her, about the fact that there didn't seem to be very many place for children to play outside the homes. She said the suns were just to hot most of the time. Even the adults would have to be careful because of the heat. Hang on while I find Mr. Tuvoc, he should be able to help us." B'Elanna got up and went into the house. "Tuvoc she called." Patty walked into the room. "She ran to the door you ladies must come in now I got busy with lunch and forgot you were outside." Kate looked at her arms they were really red and they hadn't been out there long. "I see what you mean about the sun." Kathryn spoke wonderingly. B'Elanna asked, "Patty where do the children play when they are not allowed outside? "Your apartments will have a room. Those that don't have children, or the children have grown, use it as a space to entertain friends."Patty smiled. "Here let me get you some medicine for that." Tuvoc walked in."Medicine for what." "I'm sorry father. I forgot the ladies were on the porch and they have got too much sun." Patty stood with her head down. "That is ok daughter I know it is hard sometimes to remember that they don't know about these things. They asked me all kinds of questions about the cultural taboos before they got here, just so they wouldn't be embarrassed, or embarrass anyone else. So go back to lunch, and I will get the medicine. Tuvoc told her. There was a week before the others could get there. The women were missing their children and husbands very much. The nights were the worsts. They were in their rooms at the apartment building. The days they spent at the yard working on the ship, and meeting some of the other crew, they were going to be with them. Kate walked into her apartment feeling as if she had lost her best friend she missed Chakotay so very much. She entered the room, hearing a sound she went to look, and see what it was. Finding Chakotay and the girls sitting around the supper table waiting for her. Chakotay looked up. "Well how was your day at work? Tom had all the replacaters programed with delta foods." He told her as she hugged the children. Then him. I started to take the kids outside to play, and Tuvoc wouldn't let us. "Well the sun is so hot that they don't even let their children out in the day time even the adults don't go if they can help it. We start to work at three in the morning before the sun comes out then quit at 10 a.m., and then work from three in the afternoon to seven at night. I'm glad we brought the holodoctor with us. They wanted to replace him I wouldn't let them. I told them to down load him in the new matrix. Its data banks are bigger. I told them that the children loved him. They did something so they down loaded him into the other doctor's matrix. It's so good to have you here. I've missed the three of you so much."She hugged them all again. There was a rap on the door. "Enter.": "Kathryn we would rather not return to work tonight." B'Elanna spoke for all the people." "Your right I don't want to leave the family either so call, Oh! What's his name? The one I keep murdering. The poor man will probably be glad I'm not there." Kathryn laughed. "Will do. "B'Elanna smiled "Your probably right." Kathryn smiled, "I think I'll have them make Chakotay Captian. Then I can keep my friends." Chakotay laughed, *he thought she was kidding.* Although she didn't look it. "Kathryn you are kidding aren't you. You had your friends on Voyager as Captian." "We will discuses this later." Kate looked at him. He really looked confused. Turning back to B'Elanna"go call the fellow we work under and go back to your family. Tuvoc poked his head over her shoulder It's already taken care of just after you left, I told him your families were here." "Thank you Tuvoc. "B'Elanna and Kate answered at once. Then they started to giggle. Tuvoc looked at the commander. "They have been doing that a lot for the last three days." "They are relaxed and happy with what they are doing." Chakotay quipped. "Good bye my friends. I want to be alone with this hunk." She said raping her arms around Chakotay's neck. "Well I have it made the prez. came and took mind off my hands." B'Elanna laughed. At the way Tuvoc stiffened. "Sorry no disrespect meant." "How is Megan doing with the president? I didn't want to let her go, but what right did I have to keep her from going. She was no longer my subordinate." "You can ask her in the morning. Now you are mine." She told him. Kate wiggled, as she snuggled up to him. Chakotay smiled, "we have two girls that are watching us." There was a knock at the door "cone in" Kathryn yelled. " Hi I'm P'tal my crew is ready to take the children to the testing center they will be gone about two hours if that is okay?" "That would be great" Kate said turning "Girls this is P'tal. She will be your setter for a while she takes you to a place where they will have you do some tests." "We are going to take you on a nice buss ride and show you part of the city." P'tal told them. The children seemed eager to go until they found out the parents weren't going. Ensigns Lamont and Humphry said they would go. That was okay with the kids. B'Elanna said. "You will have to pick mine up at the president house." The girl looked at her. With that raised eyebrow. " Trust me just go over there and ask for the Paris children." This went on for the next three months. They had everything they could want for themselves. The day finally came when they took the ship out for it first run to shake out the bad spots. Three days later they left Vulcan for their first assignment. Chakotay made his first entry as Captian. Of Voyager. "Captian's log star date 2476.We just left the Vulcan home world. Our first stop is the Klingon home world to tell them a bout their ship and when to expect to hear from it. If what we found out is true and we have no reason to think it might not be. Everyone seems so happy with their new life." Even the children are. Especially Maria she has her own office. Then she spends at least four hours a day to play and talk to other children. Chakotay out." The end Please send all feedback to Jan or sign my guestbook.
