Amazing Spider-Man #230

This issue was a continuation from Amazing Spider-Man #229 and is fully devoted to a confrontation between The Juggernaut and Spider-Man. I loved this confrontation but I couldn't put it under the Greatest Battles section for a couple reasons. One,due to gaping power differences this could in no way be a direct,toe-to-toe type matchup. And two, while Spider-Man was fighting The Juggernaut,it wasn't until the very end until The Juggernaut actually started fighting Spider-Man.

After having waded through all of Spider-Man's efforts to stop him from getting to Madame Web and nearly killing her in the previous issue,The Juggernaut became the target of Spider-Man's vengeance and Spider-Man went after him. It didn't take long to find The Juggernaut as he was stomping across town leaving his usual path of destruction. Spider-Man searched for ways to stop him. Earlier webbing didn't work, nor did a million volts of electricity. So he figured he'd try something more bludgeoning. As The Juggernaut moved along past a construction site Spider-Man picked up a steel girder and used webbing to slingshot it at his head. The Juggernaut simply catches the girder and twists it up.

The Juggernaut decides he doesn't like surprise attacks and stalks off in the direction the girder came from. Spider-Man stood clinging high on the side of a building when his spider-sense starts blaring. He can't figure out why it was going off being as he was completely out of striking range from his opponent. But that mystery soon dissolved as The Juggernaut ripped off the entire corner of the building. With Spider-Man on it. Spider-Man quickly leaps off to safety onto a crane. He then gets another idea and snaps the wrecking ball from the crane and hurls it at The Juggernaut. A simple backhand from The Juggernaut sends the wrecking ball into the building with such force the whole building comes down around both of them when the ball crashes into it. Spider-Man barely managed to dive into a sewer pipe before being crushed by the tumbling wreckage. After 20 minutes he emerges from the rubble to find The Juggernaut hadn't missed a step from the building collapsing on him and was long gone.

Spider-Man again tracks down The Juggernaut headed towards the docks. He figures The Juggernaut is aiming to leave town via boat so he figures this is his last chance to stop him. After a brief encounter with the hostile driver of a gasoline truck,Spider-Man gets yet another idea. He gets inside the tanker and starts to drive along The Juggernaut's trail. Once The Juggernaut is in sight Spider-Man floors it and heads straight toward him. The Juggernaut stares him down. Spider-Man thinks The Juggernaut is crazy to think he can survive a head on collision with a fueld up tanker coming at him at full speed. Spider-Man jumps out and the gasoline truck slams into The Juggernaut. He doesn't even budge from the impact and the tanker, along with all the gasoline goes up in a terrible explosion. As Spider-Man watches the blaze from a safe distance his conscience talks to him. What had he done? He just killed a man. He knew no one could've survived that. Not even The Juggernaut...

Luckily,Spider-Man would be able to sleep that night. Though his slumber would probably be filled with nightmaric visions of The Juggernaut emerging from the frightful inferno. His armor awash with flame and he totally unharmed. The Juggernaut stalks toward Spider-Man,incidently kicking over a fire hydrant along the way which put out the flames. He hammers a fist down at Spider-Man who uses his superhuman agility to dodge and leap onto The Juggernaut's back. The Juggernaut prepares to again clean Spider-Man off of him by walking him into a wll but in a desparate attempt to stop him Spider-Man covers up the eye holes on his helmet. As The Juggernaut reached back and began to awkwardly pound Spider-Man senseless,he felt himself sinking. To his and Spider-Man's surprise The Juggernaut had just happened to blindly walk into a foundation of wet cement. Spider-Man leaps off of Juggernaut to safety and Like a man in quicksand The Juggernaut sank far far down to the bottom. When you're a hero, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Favorite Issue Quote:~It's like staring into a blast furnace. Lord, what have I done? Juggernaut must have been incinerated instantly. Not even his forcefield could possibly have withstood...that...blast?~-Spider-Man,as he finally understands The Juggernaut's billing as "Unstoppable".
