Generation-X #61

In this issue The Juggernaut is in cohorts with his longtime friend Black Tom Cassidy. Black Tom had brought the real Mondo(it's apparently a long Gen-X story which I know nothing about as I wouldn't be caught dead reading Gen-X) to the Gen-X school to give Mondo a chance for revenge on Cordelia Frost. Namely by killing her.

When the Gen-Xers arrive to see what was going on outside they find Black Tom with The Juggernaut alongside him. The young X-team then engage Cain while Banshee tangles with Black Tom and Emma Frost comforts her sister Cordelia. The Juggernaut grabs Skin who uses his mutant power of...skin to break free. Then Jubilee uses her fireworks which manage to simply annoy The Juggernaut but set up a sneak attack from Chamber. This wasn't a smart move as it only served to make The Juggernaut aware of his existence.

Chamber decides to get a little cocky and starts to talk a bit of trash to The Juggernaut. Cain welcomes the challenge and Chamber lets loose with a constant stream of his biokinetic blast. As The Juggernaut begins to wade through the blast towards him Chamber utilizes for the first time the full strength of his power which causes a blinding lightshow of energy. Though an impressive display the attack proves only cosmetic at best as The Juggernaut forages right through the blast. When the smoke clears,The Juggernaut is unharmed and smugly holding Chamber's limp body by the collar as Chamber is totally spent from the blast.

During all this,Black Tom is beating up on his cousin Banshee much to the dismay of Emma Frost. After Tom smacks his shillelagh across Banshee's chin Emma's had enough and seizes control of Tom's mind and has him fire upon The Juggernaut. After seeing his friend Tom's mind being manipulated Cain was now the one who'd had enough and decides it's time to end this little game. He claps his hands together and the shockwave knocks out the whole Gen-X crew. They wake up to find themselves wrapped together in a steel girder.

With Gen-X and their mentors tied up Tom explains his purpose there and tells the story of Mondo. While Tom does this,Skin sees Penance in the woods and figures if he provides a distraction she could free them. Skin slips free and lures The Juggernaut away. Penance then springs onto the scene and cuts through the girder with her claws. Regrouped,Gen-X gets into position to follow Emma's telepathic battle plan. Chamber catches Cain's attention which allows Penance to jump onto The Juggernaut's shoulders and slice off his helmet before being tossed away. Vulnerable to her attacks now,Emma Frost hits Cain with a psi-bolt that takes him out of commision. Tom then has Mondo take them away.

Favorite Issue Quote:"OK kiddies. This was fun for awhile, but now playtime's over."-Juggernaut,after he felt Emma had stepped out of bounds with her attack on Black Tom and decided it was time to knock the lot of them out before it got out of hand.

*You're probably wondering what's so great about this issue. Well,I'll tell you. No,the story behind this appearence wasn't anything special. And no,while good, the fight was nothing to write home about necassarily. Frankly,I don't like the idea of The Juggernaut in a Gen-X book in the first place since I can't stand Gen-X. This issue made the list for one reason and one reason alone. This was The Juggernaut's first and only X-appearence since that horrid Onslaught storyline where he wasn't written into some belittling situation. Not only was he reduced to a skinny, wheezing shell of a man in Uncanny X-Men #361 with his armor fitting him like an oversized dress, but in Uncanny X-Men #369 his mind was so viciously attacked that he could do little but huddle up under a stairway crying.

In this Gen-X issue he looked almost like the Juggy of old X-dom. He outright wrecked shop on his own merit. He did it with no annoyingly decreased powers and he didn't cry once.
