Techno's Chambers

When Techno took on the guise of Ogre as the Thunderbolts resident engineer the bio-chambers deep in the sub basements of the Thunderbolts headquarters was first touched on. Techno had to get rid of the real Ogre so he knocked him unconscious and put him in a bio-containment chamber where he sleeps in suspended animation unaware of what has happened. A row of three chambers was also beside Ogre's, one that someone was in the bio-chamber before Techno even arrived and another that he had only added a few days ago. Both had abnormal life signs above their chambers the second had what seemed to have flat lined and another had irregular movement.

In Thunderbolts #37 alarms sounded in Techno's lair as the second containment chamber had an energy modulation from within, that was a bioelectric build up. The energy that came from the chamber was higher than anything that had been previously displayed. Techno considered that there was residual energy within the body but containment chamber two showed life signs.

After seeing that the person within the bio-chamber came back to life Techno started to research anyone with energy related powers to try to understand what was happening. The ones that were displayed on Techno's computer screens were Zzzax, Living lighting, Photon, Human Torch, Radioactive man, Havok, Jolt, and Sunfire. The form within the bio-chamber also looked like a slim female form with hair much like Jolt's.

When Scourge infiltrated Techno's lair, Scourge discovered that Chamber two registered almost pure bioelectric energy. Scourge eventually disrupts Techno's systems, which forces Techno to make choices about the bio containment chambers. Techno finds out that the female in bio chamber number three is conscious and for Techno to save himself he's going to have to take power away from the bio chambers. Techno is unsure what to do not knowing Scourge's abilities so Techno doesn't want to let this body die and rely on a redundancy program that might not kick in. To build this new body Techno draws energy from the bio-containment chambers all the while thinking the female with bioelectric powers was special to him, while he doesn't care much about the other two containment chambers. Techno debates his role with the Thunderbolts as he impersonated Ogre. He found the social interaction stimulating and was unsettled by Hallie's death. Techno eventually decides to stop the energy drain from the bio chambers and keep them alive knowing what other people would have done in the situation and what Zemo would have done. The stop in energy drain from the bio chambers will save them but Techno might not live on, his last thoughts are what would a thunderbolt do in this situation and concludes that a Thunderbolt die like a hero.

The bio chambers saved and the female with bioelectric powers in the second bio chamber conscious she breaks free of the chamber. A very different Jolt emerges from the chamber.

The third bio containment chamber is the mystery remaining. Possible suspects include Human Techno, if the resolution earlier wasn't final. Techno's old body from the Elements of Doom base could be in there but that seems unlikely since there was someone in the chamber before Techno arrived. Was Ogre aware of the chambers and who was in there, could be related to him somehow, or something to do with Shield? Nomad was to have disappeared and believed dead by the general public maybe this is where he was stored?

This could all turn out to be a situation must like when Ogre was revealed as the mysterious benefactor running around in the Thunderbolts Headquarters. Some unknown character from some long forgotten story turns out to be the one in bio chamber number three.

Ogre awakens from his containment chamber and it's revealed that the third bio containment chamber actually belongs to him. Since S.h.i.e.l.d. is now securing the Thunderbolts base Ogre's responsibilities were with trying to hide the contents of the bio chamber. Ogre also refers to the bio chamber as "Hs-1" in his thoughts and about his real reasons for staying behind for so long.

How did Ogre come into obtaining the bio-chamber he now has and just who or what is inside? Did he get what's in the bio chamber when he was outside or when one of the many groups was in the base and they just forgot they had it so Ogre took it? Ogre doesn't go outside much though so either he's had the contents of the bio chamber a long time or he obtained the contents when other people were using the base. The name Hs-1 a codename for the contents, that has the form of a human but why such a strange name. Perhaps Ogre is using a more scientific name for the contents of the bio chamber or it fits with the initials of the contents.

Hs-1 was revealed to be Humus Sapien. A behind the scenes story was told in the letters page of Thunderbolts #53 about how Humus Sapien was a character created for the 1973 F.O.O.M. create a villain contest and was the winner. Humus Sapien emerged from his containment chamber in Thunderbolts #53 after the Fixer found the Ogre's location, and forced him back to earth from the tesseract portal he used to hide with. This drained the power reserves that Ogre had and once back he appeared back in Mt. Charteris and Humus Sapien wreaked havoc. He drew his power from the life force of people and 2400 died within four hours because of it.

Humus Sapien's powers had killed his parents and Professor Xavier was going to help him but Factor Three captured him. Ogre being part of the group studied him for years. Ogre pushed him further and further, as well as performing experiments on him. Eventually Humus Sapien could remove anything that wasn't sympathetic to the earth and destroy it by deconstructing its atomic structure. Ogre's masters thought that Humus Sapien would be too risky to control so he put Humus Sapien into a cryogenic state. Ogre stayed behind in Mt. Charteris to take care of the containment chamber and to try to discover what gave Humus Sapien his power. Ogre discovered that Humus Sapien was powered by a person's life force.

Humus Sapien fought with the Redeemers and later having time to think after leaving them in rubble at Mt. Charteris he decided to get them to help him so he wouldn't hurt anyone else.

Ogre presented the opinion of powering up the Tesseract portal. Humus Sapien powered up the portal and left in it to be alone forever. Ogre thinking it wasn't right jumped in as well. He had learned some things from the Thunderbolts about trying to make up for mistakes so he went along.
