The Garden

Stepping through the north door, you find yourself in a short tunnel with daylight visible at the end. The smell of flowers on the breeze wafts into your nostrils, and you find yourself irresistibly drawn to the area outside. With quick steps, you cross the tunnel and come out into a veritable fairyland. The area is shaped in a bowl-like crater, dotted with trees and shrubs of innumerable varieties. Flowerbeds of roses, tulips, snapdragons and more line the valley, while plantations of fruits around the area show where the greens for the cellar are procured. A waterfall tumbles from above the gardens, flowing into an elaborate system of drains and aqueducts that water the surroundings. The water continues to flow into the base of the crater, where it forms part of a double story pool and fountain. A figurine of a mermaid, carved from jade and studded with pearls, lies along the upper ledge, holding a vase from which the water flows into the pool. Small fish dart about in the water, slips of light in the morning sun. The crater further sweeps up to form a lip, which prevents the water from flowing away. Although the waterfall continues to pour water into the crater, it never seems to overflow, somehow managing to release the water somewhere before being overfilled. Occasionally you seem to see faces and people within the water, but before you can further examine them, they fade from sight.
