Scott was the first recruit into Professor X's gifted academy, and is also the most dedicated to his ideals. The weight of responsibility on his shoulders is compouned by his physical inability to control the power in his eyes that could kill anything in his viewing range. Cyke's mutant ability is to absorb solar energy and convert it into ruby-red concussive force that then shoots from his eyes. But I think it should be mentioned that his phenomenal control over his emotions should also be listed. Scott first used his powers publicly when he was forced to flee a mob, and was then forced into service by an unruly criminal before being rescued by Xavier.

Scott's father was a pilot, and one day their plane was captured by a Shi'Ar spaceship. The children jumped from the plane, but Scott injured himself in the landing, making him lose control of his mutant powers upon reaching puberty. With their parents thought dead, the boys were sent to an orphanage. Alex was quickly taken, but since Scott was so obviously a mutant, nobody wanted him, and he grew up there. The orphanage was ruled by Mr. Sinister in disguise, who always has a hand in the lives of both Scott and his future wife, Jean. Professor Xavier later found Scott and took him to his Institute for Gifted Youngsters and made him a founding member of the X-Men.

Scott has always had a passion for Jean Grey, but has been too emotionally stunted to let her know until literally years had past. From here on it gets difficult to explain Scott's life. In an alternative future he married the Phoenix, who was incarnated inside Jean's body and had a daughter named Rachel, who later assumed the name Phoenix. Rachel later travelled thru time to stop a killing and ensure that her future would never happen, then joined Excalibur. In another time line Scott married Madelyne Pryor, a clone of Jean created by Mr. Sinister (He married Madelyne when he thought Jean was dead, but she wasn't.)and this time had a son, Nathan Christopher Xavier Summers, also known as Cable in his older form and X-Man in his younger form. Nathan later gets sick from the Legacy Virus created by Apocalypse and is sent to the future to a woman named Askani to be healed. He comes back later also to stop assasins as Cable. The alternate Nate is X-Man, a youngster with a moody disposition who did not contract the Legacy Virus. We later find out that Askani is Rachel Summers. Maddie becomes the evil Goblin Queen during Inferno, and dies. Her memories for some reason become infused with Jean's memories -- and Phoenix's -- and now Jean remembers everything. WHEW!!!

Cyclops now lives in Anchorage, Alaska with his wife, Jean.
