Charles Xavier discovered quite young that he had special mind powers and "friends" were quick to call him a mutant, being prodded by his foster brother. He later found that evil mutants, just like evil people, abounded in the world and decided to train a group of youths to make his dream come true. Mutants and non-mutants leaving in peace and harmony.
Professor Xavier has the following powers: Mental probe, Mental invisibility ("clouding men's minds"), Mental blast of stunning intensity, the ablilty to alter men's minds, Projection onto the astral plane, Mutant Detection.
For most of his life Xavier has not had the use of his legs. An incident in Tibet involving Lucifer resulted in his confinement to a wheelchair. After the alien Brood planted an embryo in Xavier's body, Dr. McTaggert and the Starjammers cloned a whole new body for Professor X. But this body was again broken after a fight against the Shadow King. He was apparently destined to be wheelbound for the rest of his life. Xavier has used a wide variety of equipment in the past including: Cerebro, a system of machines he invented to detect psionic energies in mutants and pinpoint their locations; a portable cerebro which can detect mutants at short range; Mini-Cerebro, which has no mutant-detecting powers; Leg-braces, allowing him to walk normally for a short time; and of course wheelchairs. The most interesing of these was a version which moved on treads, had PR Speed, GD Body, FE Protection, and GD Control, and packed an IN-strength force blaster.
Charles Francis Xavier was secretly a mutant telepath that believed in peace between humans and mutants. He pursued his dream and utilized his unique talents to help people with then incurable mental disorders. His journey eventually took him to Israel, where he met an orderly by the name of Erik Magnus Lensherr. The two quickly became the best of friends, despite their differing ideologies on the eventual path of mutantkind. Xavier's plans for the future were suddenly destroyed when he sacrificed his own life to save Magnus from being murdered by Legion, his own son from the future. Grieving over the body of his friend, Magnus vowed that Xavier's death would not have been in vain and set out to make Xavier's dream of human-mutant harmony a reality.
