Elizabeth was born into the British high society, although her parents were from Other World. While her elder brother Jamie became a racer champion and her twin Brian studied Physics, she made a career as top model. When she turned out to be a mutant with a high level telepathic power, she took over as Captain Britain when Brian left, losing her eyes as result of a confrontation against an enemy.
Some time later, Mojo kidnapped her and gave her bionic eyes. When she was rescued by the X-Men and joined them, the adventures of the group were broadcasted to MojoWorld, becoming top in ratings until the Dallas event, (X-Men vs. The Adversary), where she was supposed to have died.
During the Australian fight against the Reavers she crossed a gate to the Dangerous Place, and somehow was melted with a ninja Japanese woman, Kwannon, acquiring her body and being trained by The Hand to become a killer for The Mandarin.
Psylocke and Kwannon were originally two separate people with mental and martial arts abilities, respectively. In Uncanny X-Men #255, Matsuo found Psylocke after she had passed through the Siege Perilous. In Uncanny X-Men #256, he offered her to Mandarin as an enforcer. It was decided that her European appearance was a liability if she was to be accepted by the local crime lords. Despite the supposed flashback of X-Men #23, Matsuo then contacted Lord Nyorin to fuse together Psylocke and Kwannon, creating two people with both their abilities: Psylocke (who appears Asian) and Revanche (who appears European). In X-Men #31-32, we learned that Spiral was actually the one responsible for fusing them together.
Once again, she was rescued, this time by Wolverine, and rejoined the group with her new appearance, and a whole lot of ninja abilities. The ultimate form of her telepathic power is a psychic knife, that she uses to fry the minds of her enemies. Psylocke was injured in a battle with Sabretooth. She only survived by drinking the Crimson Dawn. The effects of this are still unknown, but she has now acquired a red scar over one of her eyes. She is romantically involved with Archangel. "... a great lord ... needs spies to seek out his enemies and executioners to deal with them. In Psylocke you have both."
