Since the death of his son, Morpheus had felt that, even in the Dreaming, he was caged. The only way to escape this was to leave the Dreaming forever - not as Death suggested by simply leaving the realm as Destruction had - but in following all the 'rules' which dominated Morpheus' governing - thus he seemingly either orchestrated, or allowed, his own 'death'. The boy Daniel, Lyta Hall's son, conceived in the dreams of Rose Walker's younger brother, visited the Dreaming on several occasions, and Dream obviously had a strong connection with him - visiting Daniel before seeking to free Nada from Lucifier's Hell. When Morpheus was eventually 'killed' (as Abel said, a point of view died), the the 'mantle' of Dream was passed to Daniel, the new King or Dreams, but not Morpheus - that point of view was not endless after all (except, of course, in the dreams of those he knew, as with Hob Gaddling). |
