ALBUM:1821
ARTIST:MARAUDER
YEAR OF RELEASE:1999
RATING:***

Well done power metal from Greece, the first Grecian band I ever heard. This disc tells the story of the Greek fight for independence from Turkish rule in 1821. The music is power metal, in a heavier than normal fashion, ala Grave Digger, with some Iron Maiden mixed in(lots of Maiden style dual guitar harmonies in addition to the Grave Digger style aggressive speedy riffs). Michalis Pagonis' rougher, heavily accented vocals fit the music and story perfectly, sounding like a Greek Chris Boltendahl, and adding a lot of feeling to the story being told. I'm not sure if this is the band's debut album or not, but it's very well done and I look forward to hearing more by them. Highlights of the disc include "The Greek Revolution Begins", "Free Like an Eagle"(which has a heavy Grave Digger vibe to it), and "Cry for the Glorious Town." Definately worth picking up for people into rougher power metal.
