ALBUM:CRYSTAL LOGIC
ARTIST:MANILLA ROAD
YEAR OF RELEASE:1983
RATING:****
Crystal Logic was the first Manilla Road disc I heard, and it remains the best I've heard from them. Starting off with a short intro track that leads into the speedy, catchy as hell "Necropolis", Crystal Logic rips all the way through. Featuring speedy tracks, a 10 minute epic that starts off acoustically and builds into a powerful metal number("The Dreams of Eschaton"), a slow, doomy, powerful track("The Veils of Negative Existence", the first Manilla Road song I heard), and several mid-paced tracks, Crystal Logic delivers a variety of songs without sounding disjointed. Even more surprising is the quality of the songs, the album being far more consistent than most metal albums from 1983. The Iron Glory 2001 reissue includes a bonus track, "Flaming Metal System", an excellent song that is not only worthy of the album, but fits right in with the other songs(inserted between "Necropolis" and "Crystal Logic"). Highlights are "Necropolis", "The Veils of Negative Existence", and "The Dreams of Eschaton", though the whole album is solid all the way through.
