ALBUM:FOZZY
ARTIST:FOZZY
YEAR OF RELEASE:2000
RATING:***
Although released as only a side project, featuring members of rap metal act Stuck Mojo, and the WWF's Chris "Y2J" Jericho on vocals, they managed to turn out a surprisingly good release. While the Spinal Tap-ish story is most often emphasised when the band comes up in discussions, they certainly do a more than adequate job on the songs on this disc(8/10 of which are covers). Though they are a bit of a joke band, and are often treated as such, they shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. The band members can all play(without any rap elements even), and Jericho does a surprisingly good job on the vocals, especially for one who isn't known as a singer. In fact, if he'd have been in a band when metal was big, he could have easily made it as a metal singer instead of a wrestler. Even though the band isn't a serious band, and even though it's mostly a covers album, and even though *gasp* a wrestler is involved with it, Fozzy is still worth a listen. Highlights of the disc are the covers of Iron Maiden's "The Prisoner", Krokus' "Eat the Rich", and my fave of the disc, Dio's "Stand Up and Shout"(which features Jericho's finest vocal work, IMO).
