ALBUM:HOLY DIO-TRIBUTE TO THE VOICE OF METAL, RONNIE JAMES DIO
ARTIST:VARIOUS
YEAR OF RELEASE:1999
RATING:****

Unlike a lot of tribute albums I've heard(such as most of the various Maiden and Sabbath tributes), this one features bands that actually sound influenced by the band they are paying tribute to. What this amounts to is 2 discs of Dio songs, almost all done quite well by numerous speed/power metal bands. While not sounding like copies of the originals, Dio's influence on almost all of the bands is easy to hear. Features many great bands paying tribute to one of the biggest influences on the power metal genre. Quite good, particulary for a tribute album. Highlights include, Stratovarius-"Kill the King", Blind Guardian-"Don't Talk to Strangers", Grave Digger-"We Rock", and Destiny's End-"The Last in Line".
