ALBUM:MALEFICIUM
ARTIST:MORGANA LEFAY
YEAR OF RELEASE:1998
RATING:****
Morgana Lefay's fifth full length album continues to stand as their best. Telling the story of an innocent town magistrate who is tortured and killed by the Inquistion, and his revenge after death, Maleficium is yet another example of the way a concept album should be done. Charles Rytonken's Jon Oliva-style vocals and the band's heavy, slower music fit the storyline perfectly, and provide the perfect atmosphere for this tale. The big choruses of "The Source of Pain" and "Maleficium", the shrieks of "Victim of the Inquistion", and the sounds effects of the intro further enhance the listening experience. The album is highlighted by the three aforementioned songs, along with the faster paced "Creatures of the Hierarchy".
