Melissa is not only Mercyful Fate's first album, it's also their finest. When first released, it was an underground success, these days it's widely regarded as being highly infuential on the entire Black Metal sub-genre of music. King Diamond's vast vocal range, combined with the guitar interplay of Mike Denner and Hank Sherman create a perfect blend of melody and darkness. The lyrics are blatantly Satanic, and thus will turn a lot of people away, but for those willing to actually listen, there is a abundance of great music on this album. Songs like "Satan's Fall" and "Evil" remain MF concert staples to this day.
